Shocks?
« on: December 31, 2010, 04:11:33 PM »
I am searching for opinions on rear suspension.  After putting the GL1000 front end on with racetech springs and emulators the front end of the bike significantly out performs the rear.  I have bronze sing arm bushings and currently am running progressive suspension rear shocks but am looking to possibly upgrade to match the front ends performance.

I am currently leaning toward racetech ; RT G3-S Rear Shock with Piggyback Reservoir, Rebound Adjust, No Ride Height, Hydraulic Preload

I am looking to tap into the knowledge and experience of the sites users with other shocks and suggestions on this upgrade.
Thanks,
tweakin

How much will those set you back, you could get a set of aluminum body Ikon's for about $400 US and some change and that is all you would need for the life of you on the bike. Totally rebuildable and you'll be able to get parts for a long time.

Spend any more than that and you are wasting money.

The Works pro racer shocks have a good rep. I have never ridden them but I have only heard good things about them. Plus they are custom built for your bike and weight.

Those are really nice looking shocks mate, but like Dudie says, you can't go wrong wiith Ikon's, I've had many different brands of shocks on my Cb750's, but the 7610 series Ikons (nee Koni) are the best I've had by far.

You can spend a lot more on Ohlins etc, but like I've said before, putting 1000 dollar shocks on a CB750 is like putting a mink coat on a 10 dollar hooker. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I have works on my harley and love them, tough decisions and none of the options are inexpensive, lol.

If i were planning on vintage racing or such those racetech units or a set of ohlins would be worth the coin.

I'm thinking Works Street Trackers...although the performance gain from the mink coat would probably be better. ;D

Talked to a few racers that say that the Ohlins aren't that good at all and i have been told that more than once, one guy even referred to them as "overpriced rubbish" . I have used the Koni's and they suit the bike well, of course you need good swing arm bushes other wise the shocks won't help much at all.

That's how I met my first wife.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

My back end is good and tight.  Had a machinist custom fit some bronze bushes for me.

Just out of curiousity anyone had any experience with the old Fox Street Shox, I may have a line on some and understand all the rebuild parts are still available.

You will be amazed at how well the racetech front end works.  I am leaning toward the works rear shocks once I put together the coin.  I know the performance is on par with the Koni's but I like the look a little better.  Hope you had a great new year.

Gez, I haven't heard of Fox shocks for over 20 years mate, but they were pretty good in their day, if you get more than one set, put me down for a pair? Cheers, Terry. ;D
