hey cwchan.
I not sure yet. I freind of mine has a 550 as well. and needs parts. I told him he can first dibs.
I have a few other extra parts from anoter bike.. Is there anythg in particular you are looking for? might have it.

yes. the plan is to tuck everything up under the seat. picking up a gel batt thats half the size of the original.

Right now i was just thinking of the side covers - provided they are in better shape than mine...  my project is similar... well still in the planning phase but i picked up a cbr600rr front end.

well.. made some progress tonight.
though now, its' really apparent I need to make some rear sets. original peg set up isn't so good unless you go to yoga alot.. and I don't.. so rear sets are in order... lol
I also need to track down longer rear shocks. does any one know where I should go to find a pair of 16-17" shocks?

Can't wait to see that rear tire set up brought to life.  Is there gonna be enough clearance for the sprocket and chain with a tire that wide?

I don't see why you'd need shocks that long unless you raised the upper eye mount position up like 3 inches, which it doesn't look like you've done.   Keep in mind, even when the shocks are maxed out as far as their extension, the swingarm isn't going to be at it's physical limit.   So I think for visual mockup you should probably raise the swingarm near or at approximately where the shock's top eye is going to mount.

thanks for your comment fastb.
i was scratching my brain over this all night as well.. I didn't raise the clevis height.. so to me, I couldn't figure out why the hoop almost rested on the rear tire when I tried to moch up. then it dawned me... the clevis possition has moved foward alomot 3".. hens. being 3" short now.. plus the hoop sits lower than where the O.G. fram rails would have not been there.
So now, thoughts are towards three things.
Do I;
make new shock mounts on the swing arm (making a new one) more forward?
drop the clevis mount on the frame a couple inches? (not a fan of the look in my head)
or... search out some longer shocks? which I was going to look for some better looking and performance shock any ways..

or i guess.. choice "C"? all the above.. LOL

OK I see what's going on.  You're swingarm angle placement is being dictated by clearance for the tire?   Maybe it would be better to angle the tubes you've added a couple degrees AND add longer shocks.  It looks like you're running into the exact same problem Squirley did with his.
If I remember correctly,  I think his frame rear section was kicked up just a little more than yours, but maybe it's just the pic.  He used those CB900/1100 (?) shocks that are like 14.5", and even then he had to use some kind of bracket to lengthen its connection.  I think using the brackets may have been avoided by adding some kind of upward curve to the rear hoop.  I wanna say it's in the last couple pages of his build.
Keep in mind this is totally ignoring the swingarm's available arc before it starts hitting other pieces.  If it wasn't for the hoop, you'd be able to just tack your top shock mounts in almost the same place and be in the game, no?

ya.. I think we're on the same page.. I remember reading that in squirleys thread too.. It's all coming back to me. LOL

and funny you should memtion squirley's bike. thats my inspiration.. LOL
i'm looking into some shocks tonight over at a friends shop.. go through some catalogs and see what we come up with.. do you remember if those cb900/1100 shocks where from Ohlins or some where else? I remember seeing them some where, but can't pin point where.

I'm also building a new swingarm. so if I can, I might be able to gain an inch or two more in relocating those shock mounts an inch forward from stock.. going to draw up some things tonight as well.

No Rusty, those shocks are the stockers.  There's an Ohlins model HO140 I believe that's a direct fit, and you can find them for less than $500 if you look around.

RO, have you seen the rear suspension on the Yoshi GS1000 Suzuki's.? I will get some pics for you , actually i have the Yoshi specs for the whole bike somewhere and it shows the "new" mounts and frame changes needed to run shocks in a different position, i say this because the new pipe you have welded in at the back looks similar...Interested.?

OK, here's the pdf, i will post the link for it, look at page 12 and 13 and it clearly shows the rear frame mod like yours, explains the angles of the shocks and shows the new mounting points....
