Hey man. At this point the brake will clear the exhaust. But i will have to top mount the brake arm on the hub. Running the linkage over the top of the swingarm and exhaust-instead under as it is stock.

Oh cool. Your project is a great inspiration man. Some of the same idea's I want to do to my 550 but others I'd not thought of...I'll be watching this build for sure!

Thanks man. Let me know if i can help in any way. This build has been alot of trial and error. Have not seen any other CB550 builds trying to stuff 180 rear tires.. Or CBR600RR forks, most go for GSXR forks... So i'm kinda going at blind. Learning as i go.

Thanks for the interest guys.
Saddly, not much to update. Been busy working on a few other projects for friends.

The wiring and ignition is done on the 550 now. Rear off set sprocket carrier is done and bolted up. However the gent that was going to fab up the front off set sprocket is to busy to do it.

I wasn't %100 sold on the tail light I had used. Found a fellow that makes up some trick looking little LED brake/signal lights. They are in the works now. Hope to have them soon and on the bike.

Front end is sick. Been watching this since I found out you were on the site. Would you be able to mock up another hub for your set up? Or your guy who did?

The hub is stock. Nothing changed. Had the machinist make a new axle with spacers to center the wheel in the forks. and disc adaptor plates were made to the thickness needed to center the discs in the calipers.
I could send you his contact info. But I'm sure a machinist in your area could do the job as well. And save you the shipping $$ from Canada. Hahahaha.

Not much to tell.. as you might see from the photos.
Ryan (machinist) made a axle to fit the I.D. of the stock CB550 wheel bearings. larger at one end to fit the I.D. of the fork leg.
The other side. He made a collor to fit the I.D. of that fork leg and the O.D. of the new axle. Drilled and threaded the end to snug up the assembly much like how the stock CBR axle did.

He made spacers to fit the O.D. of the axle to center the wheel in the forks. All trial and fit till it was %100 center in the forks.

once the wheel was center. Calipers were bolted onto the forks. We were able to measure the distance from the hub to where the discs had to sit to be center in the calipers. thats the thickness of the adaptor plates. machined a lip for the discs to sit snug in place and %100 true. drilled the 6 holes for the discs and 6 holes for the long studs to go all the way through the hub (like how the stock disc/hub assembly goes together)

the front wheel size is still the stock 19". I'm not sold on whether or not I want to change that. If I do, I might go with a wider rim/tire but try to keep it 19" dia. I like that look.

the rear is a 18x5.50" rim. 180/55/18 Metzeller Marathon tire.

So far, I'm loving how its sitting now. feels pretty agressive and comfortable.

I should back track some. I once wrote that it was a direct swap. Bearings and all. But after closer inspection. The 550 bearings were not riding the cups right.
I got the bearing kit from AllsBallsracing and I can truly say. WOW! What a difference! Feels like melted butter on your finger tips. Lol worth the extra few bux!

This front end came off a 2006 CBR600RR. Luckily they were straight and clean. P.O. Was a dumb kid that blew the engine. The rest of the bike was mint! I lucked out and got the forks. Lol

Just some stuff to update.
this is the 18mm offset ring I had machined for the rear. now the chain clears the 180 tire with 4mm clearance and 3.5mm from inside bike frame and chain. close but clears all.

next is to find a front off set sprocket for cb550. anyone know where I can find 18t off set front sprockets for cb550's?
Other than CycleX! they don't have any in stock and don't reply to emails lately it seems..

Rusty, have you been doing all this yourself besides the machining? I thought you worked in the electronic arts, not the mechanically inclined with mad skills field.

Been working TV/Film industry for 14yrs. But before that I had a VW Restoration shop. I learned all my tooling skills from helping my dad build hot rods and race cars when I was a weee monkey. Lol
