To bad about those haters. I quit posting on DTT as well. Just a weird vibe on that site. I    dig your bike and I loved that video you made with the Black Keys. Never heard of them before that and now they are in heavy rotation on my iPod!

I think we all see builds we don't like or would have done something different. But to go out of the way to actually pm a guy to tell him you don't like something is complete douchbaggery. People need to learn how to be polite geez!

SPOT ON brandEn! Black keys have been downloaded here as well. Every album actually.

Wow.  That sucks about the hate-mail you received.  I know that there are some folks that feel it is a crime to cafe or cut a vintage bike.  That said, these bikes have been chopped and modded for the last 40 years.  You buy it, you can do what you want with it.  Of course, if it is a pristine bike to start with, it might make more sense to keep it stock/resto.  Whatever.  To each his/her own.  I appreciate most of the different builds.  It's all about what the individual owner wants out of it.  I admire the recent young builder thread, who just wants to get his bike running and ride the bejeezus out of it.  Hell, yeah!

Having purchased a ratty K7 and turning it into a period cafe, and then purchasing an even rattier K2 for a Mongrel new/old cafe, I like both styles.  I like builds like Cheftustky that are pretty much bone stock restos, too.  We all share a common passion for these heavy but functional metal sculptures.  Rock on, Cam!

Reading your entire thread has really got my brain stirring. Now I am looking at a CB550 frame and looking for a set of donor front end assembly. I really dig your setup. The fabrication and all.

I just might get my 750 running and riding. Then start a real build up from a bare frame. It may just be a CB550 also.

Awsome bike I love it!

Lol. Thank you sir!! Cb550's are fun bikes.. Riden many 750's. great bike!! Love them too. But have to say, i really enjoy the 550's around the city streets more. Just that little less weight than the 750 makes a surprising difference on the city streets. But that been said. Love the 750's on longer road trips. Lol

Little update.
Engine is a little freshened up. Headgasket sawp, oil pump rebuilt. Oil seals and tappet cover seals.

Went to paint it monday night. Only the color was way far off for my liking. Wanted a vibrante silver. But the colour i picked up had a hint of blue. So last night I repainted with the high heat silver from VHT. Better!! :)

Cam,
The motor looks good.  It's amazing what a difference the VHT paint can make out of a rattle can.  That was a mighty fast refresh.

I know how you feel RO. If the garage where my 550 project is located were at my home instead of my sister's 50 miles away I would be very close to done at this point.

Did you use an oven for the VHT paint or cure it by running the engine?

I didn't oven bake my engine.. to big to fit in my oven. LOL
I heated my shop up for a few days plus the heat wave we had here, let the paint cure as good as it could.. crossing my fingers the paint won't flake later as I run the engine. Done it before on other engines. turned out fine.

I also took the liberty to degrease the engine and scrub with a toothbrush three times. then took a rag with paint remover and gave it all the quick wipe. removing as much chance of contamination as I could.

this is a temporary engine by the way. this winter plan is to do a big bore kit, cb650 cam and oil sump and new heads. possible a set of CR carbs too. depending on cash flow. LOL

Sounds similar to what I'd like to do this winter. Right now I'm in "Put bike back together and enjoy it for a few months" mode.

And yeah... these are definitely first world problems.
