Topic: 1975 CB750 Mild rebuild and clean up..

Hey all, just thought I'd share this small project with you..

I picked the bike up about a month and a half ago just to have a classic daily rider.  It sounded rough, but I though a carb balancing would sort it out. After rigging up the vacuum gauges and getting her mostly sorted, I noticed oil collecting in the left hand muffler.  Long story short, I ended up pulling the motor, and stripping it down to the frame for a good clean up.

Currently the cylinder block and head are at a local shop being looked at, while I scrub the grime off the frame and do some well needed maintenance.

I doubt I'll update this thread too often unless it's to answer questions or respond to criticism,  but I update my photobucket account as often as I do work on the bike...

Murdoch, welcome to the site and good luck on the rebuild, it's already so clean. you'll find lots of good feedback and just about every problem previously solved on here. Also, don't worry about whatever that guy is saying about the photos. People don't need to sign up to look at your photos on photobucket.com.

I can assure you this will be much more than a refresh. My bike was in similiar condition as yours and  I thought I was doing a refresh now in the last few months I've , rebuilt the top end to eliminate leaks. Put in new seals and stuff, bought a parts bike just so I could take the exhaust off it ( OEM exhaust for these old bikes are pricey) and have slowly got most of the original prts on there.  And im still not happy as a have a fender that is not straight, another fender with a small ding, crappy tank trim, and not so perfect but usable original paint.  two front tires and  sqweaky brakes, still need fork boots, new steering bearings,  and someone stole a side cover the other day, for no apperant reason.  I hope the guy that took it was missing one and it was the final touch on his bike.  Only then will i find it acceptable, until I see him and steal it back.  sorry about the rant but i had to get a few things off my chest

Heh, yeah, your bike IS just like mine!  That's how it goes, you fix one thing and then you gotta fix it all!

I thought I might take some heat for not posting my photos here but having them in one free site where I can organize them seemed much more appealing. Besides, when I was restoring my BM I kept my photos there, so now it just force of habit...

Anyways, I'm STILL waiting on the head and cylinders to be finished. I was hoping to have them back this weekend since we Canadians have the Monday off, giving me plenty of time to work on it. 

And I'm inclined to agree with you, Tete, I've already considered buying a parts bike that had a mint stock exhaust.. But I have to remind myself, this is going to be a daily rider, not a show bike... As long as it's running strong, I can enjoy it. I'll leave the resto for a later date.
