Yes it will affect tuning.  Your best option is to find another stock airbox, but if you must have pods do a search there is plenty of info on the trials and tribulations of the pod people.  ;D

I've been getting difficult starting in my 76 cb750f in the rain w/ stock everything except for MAC style muffler. I recently did the tappets and found them pretty tight after about 2k miles and now it's, maybe, fifty percent better in the rain. My bike is kickstart only, everything else appears to be in good condition - points seem good, checked timing +/- 2k miles ago, haven't synched carbs, bike has about 14k on it. I'd love to run pods for aesthetic purposes but I'm afraid performance would suffer.
So much to do, so little time.

Yes, the pod people.. also known as the podsters.  There are a lot of folks here that have done pods and like them.  There are significantly more that either a) enjoy the stock airbox, b) have tried pods and gone back to the stock airbox, c) tried like crazy to get pods working well and haven't.

I agree with "blah blah blah srust58".  Find yourself another airbox.  Some of the "top dogs" of the forum (those that know these beasties well) will tell you that the factory airbox was well engineered and getting the proper air flow, velocities and fuel mixtures across different throttle settings will be much more difficult with pods or "non-factory airbox solutions".

I gave away my airbox 10-12 years ago (in favor of pods) and wound up buying another from a forum member here (Proteal55 I think) a few years ago.

I use pods on my '75 db 550 and they work pretty well.  I put bugger jets in and it runs nice.  I also have strait pipes so the bigger jets help with that too. Although the bike is designed to use the airbox, thats why its there, but if you service your carbs here and there you'll find that the pods are MUCH easier to deal with vs the airbox.  The pods make everything simple service wise.  If you dont mind the box then get another for sure.

I know the airbox is a pain to get on and off on the 550 but with the 750 it's no trouble at all, at least with my F model.  And about those bugger jets, don't bend over and turn your back on them. ;D

if i get a new airbox, i will have to get new rubber velocities that go into the airbox, as mine are rock hard. and working around that box is a complate pain in the arse.... but we'll see. a friend has an old school super thin 1 piece flat air cleaner that i might try. either way, thanks for the advise and and all, its much appreciated.

Forum member Tin Top is making new rubbers for the 750 and the 750 is pretty easy to work on with the box on and even easier if you take it out. The 750 is the easiest of the 4's to take the box on and off....

I don't use the standard airbox.  'Pods' as you call them are excellent but you will need to jet your carbs for them.  I feel that if this is done properly it will perform better than standard, especially when conbined with a decent 4-1 exhaust.

Srust58 has an "F" (I gotta own one of those one day :)) which I believe to be different than the "K" in regards to the airbox.  You are on the right path if you get new rubber parts.  It makes a significant difference when installing and de-installing the airbox.  You can also do the wintergreen trick to soften up old ones.  If you have tears or cracks, forget it, otherwise I think it's worthwhile.  I've done several sets with good results.
