1976 CB550 BUILD - I.E. MAKING IT RIDEABLE AGAIN
« on: January 02, 2011, 01:28:02 PM »
Hey Everyone,

I have been lurking for a while and figured I would start a build thread. I picked up a 1976 CB550 that was sitting since the early 90's. Im going to do the typical "strip it down to the frame, clean, repair, rebuild" that I have seen in so many builds here on the forum. I am not going to a typical style, I am just planning on doing my own thing with the bike and being able to ride it from Cleveland to Akron for work and around in the summer. Anyone else on here from Cleveland by chance? Anyways, here are some pictures - nothing super, and I will update when I get moving on the bike - like when it isnt 19 degrees outside. I dont think I want to paint it, it has a pretty goofy paint job, anybody recognize it? Rare maybe or just Honda 70's tackiness???

Day I brought it home

To torch or not to torch........

How it currently sits along with my suzuki.

Nice find! Good luck. BTW you have a 77 or 78 there. The tank, sidecovers, and no boots on the forks tell me so. Good info to have when you're buying parts because most don't interchange.

That is definitely good to know! Maybe it was built early in the run and then was registered as a 76? I wish there would have been boots on the forks, they are rusted to hell! I am planning on getting it running first to see what I am in for, then I will take it down to the frame and rebuild from there. So the tank and sidecovers were like that from the factory? Everything is in decent shape, Im not planning on painting over the tank or sidecovers, I think it adds to the personality of the bike :o I hope it turns out awesome, we will see!
