any nitro R/C guys here??
« on: January 03, 2011, 03:28:44 PM »
so i'm about to get my hands on a Savage X SS nitro R/C truggy kit.  it's pretty badass, pretty damn durable/reliable from what all i've read.  i got a STEAL of a deal on it (i didn't mean anything with steal, i paid for it!), so i couldn't pass it up.  just ONE more hobby to add to my quite extensive list!  it's not a complete kit, as i'll have to get all the electrics for it, receiver/controller and servo's.  here's what i got!!

any recommendations on a good, inexpensive 2.4 GHz controller and servo's?  i'm pretty sure i'll get some of the Hitec 645MG for the servo's, but i dunno about the rest??  if anyone else does this hobby, please let me know!!

Just getting into the nitro RC plane hobby myself.

From what I have found Futaba transmitters and receivers are pretty inexpensive, but Spektrum seems to be the way to go.

2.4ghz is the bee's knees, when you are with other people and may want to take it a longer distance, and programmable for other RC things you may have. But the FM 72mhz is still really good and more affordable for anyone new to the hobby. Definitely try and start with something mid grade and maybe work your way up. It can definitely get expensive quick.

Good luck and Have fun!

Will it just not start? Idle? What?

honestly its been a year or so since i f'd with it (hondas in the way  ;D) but i could get it to fire but no idle. im 90% sure its a carb problem, but might need a piston and sleeve. that and i have a running rs3 that tends to get more use.
hell i even have some classics.... anyone remember tamiya's blackfoot, or the midnight pumpkin? the old electric ones are a blast....

I remember the old mrc/tamiya kits. They were fun but cheap for a lot of them. Parts broke easily. I always wanted a thundershot or avanti though. I have the original rc10 though. That sucker is fun! I also have an old traxxas nitro 4tec. 50 mph out of the box. That was big back then. I have difficulties controlling rc cars though. I have this issue with not taking my finger off the trigger when cornering! Makes for very wide corners! ;D

As for radios, futaba has always been reliable and solid. For ground use, you don't need anything more really. I would do FM though at a minimum with nitro. PCM radios were also a hot number as you could program the radio to close the throttle if contact is lost with the transmitter.

Not sure if these have been posted here or not, but they're fun to watch (again) regardless...  ;D

How the hell would you even fly a plane like that?

Does it automatically turn around when you get out of radio range?

It'd about have to.  I was kind of wondering about the RF range on it myself.

Yes they do, if you set the receiver unit to do so.

Wow I am literally speechless on the 400mph. My maybe does 60 on a step dive, but how in the Hell can anyone keep up with one going that fast??!! How could you ever see it? I can maybe understand with clouds giving you some sort of back drop, but the big thing about flying and getting out too far is the orientation of the plane. Once it's out that far it is hard to tell if the plane is going left, right, upside down, etc etc.

And at that speed how can it handle the forces? How does it not just disintegrate under that power?

That was really awesome,

Oh and the gnat shoot, I love to see a hot chick sporting some fire arm!!

Nice finds thanks for sharing!
