Honda parts cross reference - Copyright question
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:30:11 AM »
Hi!

With the temperature being too low to ride or even work on the bike and enough spare time to play around, I did some programming. It's a web application for looking up Honda part numbers and browsing fiches similar to http://zedder.com/msg16.htm
I used several web sites to gather the required data. The aim was to be able to print out fiches along with the part numbers and have a cross-reference between various models, so that ebay searches might be more successfull in the future. It's also great for finding differences between models years.

So right now, I'm able to:
- Choose from most of the SOHC4 models and some older twins
- Browsing their fiches with parts lists
- Look up all models that I've stored in the database that use a certain part
- Display a printer-friendly page including one fiche and the parts shown on them

I think that others might find this app helpfull too. But I am not sure about copyright issues, so I fear that I would be sued if I just make it availlable on a web server.

I'd love to share this information with the SOHC4 forum members, so does anybody have an idea if and how this could be legally done?

Cheers

I am not a lawyer but it seems to me that as long as you are not selling anything you should be fine.  Actually, you are doing Honda a favor by making it easier to find and buy parts.  My .02...Larry
