Saw the flooding briefly on the news at work.  Fearful damage!  I don't know where are fellows are located.  Everybody okay?  Need anything?

Thoughts are with those people so affected by this - the scale of damage is unreal, and in an area as large as NSW!!! far out, that's a lot of water, and more to come.
To put it into perspective, I heard on the news last night that a dam on the Fitzroy River is 150% capacity, and enough water to fill Sydney harbour is flowing out of it every 2 days...........hard to believe. And that water is heading to and through Rockhampton.
Even the coal mining is badly affected. Will be months/years before things get back to normal.
Good luck and best wished to all involved.
Peter.

My thoughts are with those who suffer.
What a way to start a new year >:(
They should drown these insurance( ???) companies! They are the real 'white collar criminals'.

Before joining this forum I had no connection to other parts of the world. Now I have made a few contacts and hope that everything is alright.
My basement floods every year (inches) and that is a headache, I just cant imagine the devastation that others must go through by losing EVERYTHING.

One thing I found interesting in any of the personal interviews I saw on the news, the Australian residents were quite stoic about it, as in these things happen, as apposed the typical Manhattan resident last week and that snow was gone in a few days.  ::)

I'm in Qld at the moment with family inland a bit from Nambour. Plenty of rain but no serious flooding. Back to Darwin on Saturday for some more rain. It's one of the wettest years I've seen for a while & a cyclone or 2 is real possibility this Wet Season.
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

My sister lives in Toowoomba, she lost her brand new car at lunch time today,a huge 4 meter wall of water took everything in its path including her car, they found it later under 2 other cars.. :o  A couple of people are dead in Toowoomba but its worse at the bottom of the range. The water has completely engulfed a small town and it is at roof level right through town, houses are floating away and a couple in one of the homes are thought to be gone, the wall of water is heading to the next town.  Crazy #$%* man, its forecast for the same here tonight, we had 300 mm {12 inches} last night and there is water everywhere.... We are all ok though and probably high enough not to  be inundated .....i hope.... :o

I'm live just outside Maryborough and it is amazing the amount of people (southerners mainly) that are amazed that the water can come so high, and we have only copped a small flood, so far, 8.4 metres I think was the peak (our highest ever recorded was about 12.5m) but there is more to come it hasn't rained here much in the last day or so but upstream from us, at Gympie, the water is still rising and they are expecting a peak of 20 metres or more there, so it will be an interesting next couple of days. I personally hope the flood doesn't hang around too long as I am starting a new job at the end of next week on Lady Elliot Island and atm there is water in between me and the airport. :-\

We are fine as far as the floods go, our place is about 45 metres above the river, if we go under Maryborough will be long gone.  Mind you I am sick of the rain, our driveway is that chopped up and soupified that anything less than a 4x4 won't get near the place, in december we had 27" of rain and at least another 10" this year so far, and to think our total rainfall for 2009 was only 15". I am sick of shoveling rock into the driveway. I will be working in the maintenance department doing mechanicing and general maintenance around the resort.  I visited Lady Elliot a few years ago and it was the closest I can imagine to being in paradise on earth.  Mind you, my view of the place may change once I start working there, but I can't see it happening. As far as taking the fishing gear goes, the government has stuffed that up they put a whopping great green zone with Lady Elliot right in the middle  :-\ but I will definately be packing my snorkeling gear  ;D ;D ;D
