Not saying frame has  beeen switched but yiu could lightly sand or rub with wet rag to see if there are numbers or rivet holes for data tag.. both sides of the neck , closer to front.

Would not hurt to check near the right main footpeg, see if there is a stop bracket for the brake pedal, if its a later frame it will have the bracket welded on.

Sounds very iffy to me mate - I'll happily help you out and take it off your hands for your purchase price.
Just pop it in an extra large jiffy bag and I'll send you a postal order by return ;D
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Welcome to the SOHC forums.

Perhaps we can get to the bottom of your mystery frame?

This is what your original USA market frame data tag should look like and it's held on with two rivets. It's located on the right side of the neck, just forward of the gas tank. If it's missing you should see the two rivet holes as per 754's post above.

Honda stamped CB750K frame numbers on the left side of the neck as the photo below shows:

This what the left side stamped frame numbers should look like:

If there are no grinding marks and no rivet holes it could have been a replacement frame on which the dealer is supposed to stamp the original number but didn't always.

I am in Gloucester UK and if you want to ring me on 07795162623 from a landline WITHOUT witholding the number any evening Sunday through Thursday inclusive AFTER 8pm i will ring you back and give you some ideas

sanded both sides of the neck now and there are no signs of rivet holes or numbers and there is no bracket near the footpeg for the back brake lever definitely looks like original paint as well

Looks like you no longer have the original frame with the serial numbers. Can you post some photos of your frame?

Early 69s did not have data tags. And British may not have got them till later. I think Australia did not use them the first few years.
Soulds like it may be a replacement frame as was mentioned.
