CB350F crank case assembly help
« on: January 08, 2011, 02:53:37 PM »
Could some one please tell me the best process for putting the crank case halves together?
I think the process must start with the upper case upside down (with crankshaft and transmission in place), and then place the lower half on top of the upper case.

In particular, since the primary gear and shaft are in the lower half do I leave the primary gear loose, with the chain around it,  then, after the lower crankcase has been bolted in place, locate the primary gear and insert the shaft for the primary gear?

Thanks for the help.
Pat

Check the manual.  I had to install a shaft after the case halves were assembled on my last 350f rebuild.

All I have is the Clymer manual, it says nothing about the process.

Thanks

Sorry guys but pwducati has it correct. 350 and 400, Primary shaft after cases closed. But as he said the primary/starter gear must be installed with the primary chain on before lower case is installed.

Thanks guys for your response, I was trying to figure it out, wanted to be sure I did not overlook something.

Thanks also to Camelman for the manual offer. (PM has been sent.)

TTR: I see you are in South Africa. A few years ago I was at the Mid Ohio Vintage meet here in the US.
A guy had a CB550 with a beautiful stainless four into four exhaust that he said came from South Africa.
I tried to follow it up, without success. Would know who could have supplied the exhaust? Would they have something like that for the CB350F?

Thanks,
Pat
