Is this a cb750 seat?
« on: January 03, 2011, 11:22:44 PM »
I am in need of a seat for a 71 cb750 and am wondering if this is a seat from a 750?  If so, any guess on the year?  Or what range it would fit?

Sort of looks like a 72 or maybe? 71.. 71 has a latch, 72 uses a seat lock.. not sure if they interchange.
Seats are a bit tough to find, if it is reasonable you may want to grab it, even if wring year.. may be able to trade up or down later..

$1 AUD = About 3 shillings and sixpence (or three majic beans) ;D
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Ha ha, not any more mate, the good old global financial crisis has given the old "pound of stirling silver" a real kick in the balls, the Aussie dollar has exceeded the US dollar several times recently, and is roaring up against the Pound and the Euro.

I just got my subscription notice from "Motorcycle Mechanics" magazine, where once it was twice as expensive as an Aussie bike mag, it's now about the same, even with international postage, and I still get it quicker than my newsagent does.

While the rest of the world is going down the toilet financially, Australia is relatively unaffected. Just another reason you should emigrate Mark, and bring that beautiful bike with you! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Not to dispute any one who probably knows more than me...

But my K2 has the hinges on the right side and I converted to a non-locking latch.   ???

That seat has hinges on the left, wouldn't that make it later?

Well picked up Ron, that seat is not a K2 seat if the hinges are on the left, all early CB750 seat hinges are on the right. Sorry to mess KcK3 around, if you've bought it? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I don't have the CB750 in my possession yet, what side are the hinges on for the 71 K1 750s?  If I can make this seat work I am interested in it.  Are they on the same side as the 72 hinges?

Up to and incl 72K2 the hinges are on the right side. I don't know for sure when they changed to left side hinges but it was after K2.

I thought about swapping them too, maybe drilling and tapping a left hinge seat as shown to fit a rt side hinge frame. But it would be a struggle. If you could do some tactical welding... or find the right seat.   :D

I have swapped a k5 onto a k2 with no problem.  Hinges are on the right at least til K5
If it works good, it looks good...

Yep, I'm pretty sure the K0-K6 seats are all hinged on the right. Don't buy it mate, get the correct one for your bike. ;D

I was going to say its prob not even a 750 seat based on the hinge location.  I was "told" it was off a 750 but from comparing the seams/stitching to 750 seats it appears to be off as well.  I think I will pass and keep on the hunt for a 71 seat.  Is it just 70 and 71's that will fit on the K1 without and modifying?

Any K0-K6 seat will fit on your bike mate, but if you use a K2 or later seat, you'll need to use the key latch from the K2-K6 bikes. It's no biggie to swap it out, just remove the two 6mm hex head screws on your frame and swap 'em over. IMHO though, the K0-K2 seats look the best, Honda must have laid off their seat designers after 1972, as the later seats look like they were designed by a committee of accountants. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Speaking of 71 seats...anybody have an extra seat latch for one? I have a perfectly good seat with no latch P/O removed and "lost" it... Why they %$#@ do you take something like that off in the first place? It has ONE moving part...

Thanks in advance either way.

G'Day Mark, what was the problem with customs? I imported a CB750K0 from the US in 2007 without any problems? I know that the tax on recent model (post 1989) imported bikes is a pain (10% GST) but shipping isn't too bad, I sent a Yoshimura equipped Suzuki GS1000 to Britain in 2002 and was surprised at how cheap it was?

Anyway, come on over mate, I owe you a beer for sending me that sidecover after my new POS LPM sidie blew off my F2 on it's maiden voyage! Cheers, Terry.  ;D
