We have offers of overnight accommodations at Operator's in Fredricton and BWaller's south of Montreal.  I'm thinking we'll need at least one overnight between the two.

I previously offered overnight accomodations in the Quebec City area (Chateau-Richer postal code G0A 1N0), my new garage can accept maybe 10 bikes, I can also ckeck with a SOHC friend living in Quebec City for extra accomodations if needed.

Awesome Raynald!! I must have missed that!  I'll add it to the map.

Since I haven't heard anything from the Maritimes, it looks like Operator may be heading to Quebec instead of Nova Scotia.  Can Fredricton-to-QC be ridden in one day?

EDIT:

Added the overnight at Raynald's.  That's three offers for overnights and they look well spaced.  Do I have the overnight offers correct?  I haven't changed the routes yet just in case the Maritimes speak up.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Shame to be that close and not get a shot at Niagara falls. 2cents

The Falls may still be doable if we splice in an overnight on the north coast of Lake Ontario.  Would be plenty of time to play in Toronto too.

Of course Port Dover is a very famous MC town and not far past the falls. I think both of those could be visit stops. Probably lots of inexpensive accommodation in Port Dover as long as it is not on a Friday the 13th.

Anyone hear from the Maritimes?? We don't have a lot of time to get the route finalized.  Maybe a week, maybe two.

Riders, please post your logs here:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=85509.0

Be as detailed or brief as you like, but please share any eventful moments of your ride, interesting people you may have met, what you liked the most, etc. Don't need lots of pictures, maybe one of the handoff or maybe a group shot of the riders you were with for however far you were able to ride. You don't necessarily have to be the one that carried the baton, but you do have to have already ridden in order to post there.

Please reserve that thread for RIDER LOGS ONLY. Comments to the riders logs there would stretch that thread out to be quite large long before the relay nears completion. By keeping that thread limited to RIDER LOGS ONLY should help improve readability for many of our forum members. I have renamed the "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona!" to "Godzilla Sightings in Daytona AND BEYOND". Please continue to use that thread for posting comments, quick updates, creative pictures of Godzilla, expanding upon the unfolding story of Godzilla's adventures, (almost) anything goes in that thread. Please reserve the Rider Log thread for factual reports and rider's insights only. Our forum moderator will be deleting comments from the Rider Log thread to help promote it's linear progression as our Relay moves forward.

Enjoy the ride guys, Godzilla's comin your way!

Hi all
Im very much interested in riding and helping out with accomodations in Ottawa. Im currently rebuilding my 1977 550 and have high hopes for a full summer of riding on the ole girl.

Welcome aboard Larecords!

I'm OldSchool, coordinator for Eastern Canada and Michigan.  If you haven't seen it yet, here is the work-in-progress map:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=44.087585,-74.619141&spn=16.977342,28.125&z=5&msid=212639289406289974048.000499952a78c34cb946b

It's not set in stone yet, and definitely in need of an update.  I haven't heard from the riders in the Maritimes in quite a few weeks, so that route is likely to get dropped.

I have added locations of overnight accommodations offered so far.  I'll add yours (Ottawa), but as yo can see, there is already one a little south of Montreal.  We prolly don't need them both, but who knows for sure.  I'm thinking we'll need one more overnight East of Toronto (Lake Ontario North shore?) then another within a half day ride to Detroit.

Please don't be shy with suggestions, we're prolly a week from nailing the route down.  As for schedule, the first Canadian rider (Operator) should have "IT" in hand late June to mid July.  More on that later too.

Hey OldSchool (love the moneker) Im larecords cause of me bein a vinyl junkie so I love ole school!!! Ive a few suggestions on the ride route. The 417 is a pretty boring ride and a 4 laner, there are a couple of options I am very familiar with and will not add more than 20 min to the ride if that. Not to sure the best way to show you. After Ottawa turn right going to Carp follow to Arnprior then go along the Ottawa river to turnoff to Renfrew. Very picturesque and not busy. Couple of good french fry places as well!!!
I have relatives in Barrie area also as well as Hamilton. Might be able to hook up with a few buddies in Toronto if needed. I run a silkscreening program for people with disabilities and could do Ts if needed. Very resonable at approx  $7.00 a shirt. Sighning off to go put the ole girl back together. Wish me luck.

You're right Larecords, we would like to stay off the 400 series hwys if possible.  As I have said before I am located about 30 minutes east of Toronto.  I could handle a couple of riders overnite if needed & could also arrange reasonable hotel nearby if required.  I'm still not sure what leg I'm driving but looking at OldSchool's map we're coming down the west side of lake Simcoe to T.O.? This would put us down another 400 series super slab & a crazy one at that.  If we're going to downtown T.O. (CN Tower, City Hall or whatever) I would suggest the east side of Lake Simcoe, maybe 169 to 12 & down to 2, I think it's much more civilized for bikes.  My 2 cents.  Like OldSchool says, we gotta start firming up our riders & routes, EH?

Brooze72

I like the idea of staying off the super slabs too.  East side of Lake Simcoe will work.  And an overnight there in/around Pickering would make for two easy days before Michigan.  You could take one day to play in TO and Niagara, then overnight somewhere along Lake Erie and head to Detroit for the handoff around noon.  Y'all are invited to ride some/all of Michigan if you like, free overnight in Kalamazoo.  I'm not exactly sure if we'll head north the next morning or if there will be a few days hold in Kazoo while we wait for the days of the week to align.

Hey Booze, I just saw your reply to my query a week or so ago.  Don't know how I missed it.  'fraid I don't know how many riders would be along that section.  Very gracious of you to offer some flop space!!  And yes, if you could look into what area hotels would want for discount rates, that would be GREAT!!

The guys going from Ottawa to Barrie have the best run in my opinion. I wish I was doing that!

I am about an hour west of the Barrie/Toronto route and thought that I'd join in Barrie or Orillia (worth a stop at Weber's for a burger?)

Not crazy about the run down the 400 either, 27 might be more fun if it was down the west side of Simcoe?

I don't need a place to stay in TO but might head home and rejoin the next day.

Yes I agree with you Cookindaddy, there are some awesome roads up there in the Ottawa/Barrie area.

Also agree with you on the route south.  Either 27 in the west (side trip thru the Forks of the Credit? Never done it, hear it's  great!) or east down 12.  What say the rest of you guys?

Hey Brooze72,

I read that there is accommodation in Pickering and if that is the case, the route should probably be down the east side of Simcoe.

I am 15 minutes from Forks of the Credit and it may be too far away from the route to be a part, I think. They were working on it last year and I am not sure of the condition or if it is even open yet. Probably all straightened out, leveled and not the same as it once was?

Well are we going thru downtown T.O.?  Something about pictures at the waterfront, I remember?   If so the east side of Simcoe, downtown & on to Niagara(?) would make sense.   Of course I'm still willing to go west side & thru the Forks, if it is open.

OldSchool said something about then overnighting somewheres on the north shore of Lake Erie (or am I confusing myself & others) & on to Michigan.  Is the crossing at Windsor/Detroit or Sarnia/Port Huron?

Guess I should pay more attention to the rest of the threads, but it's hard to read them all, I'm gettin old like my bike! I'm more of a point & twist (the throttle) kinda guy & see where it takes me.

Ive rode a little in the Barrie area and there is no way you would catch me on the 400, even if I was in a hurry, which as a biker is rule number 1 ...never be in a hurry... so east or west of Lake Simcoe...I would be more inclined to go west only because there is slightly less traffic also not too sure of the condition of the 118... I do have an alt if there is interest...

Guess I should pay more attention to the rest of the threads, but it's hard to read them all, I'm gettin old like my bike! I'm more of a point & twist (the throttle) kinda guy & see where it takes me.

Godzilla should see the CN Tower for sure. But most of us around here have seen enough of TO that it does not need to be a major stop over unless the others chime in. Niagara would be nice and Post Dover but whatever the group feels?

Well, you're confusing me.  'Zilla can't see the Tower without goin downtown, right? I don't think there is any plan for more than quick a stop?

OK, maybe we can check the condition of 118 later in the spring, I  know a guy who lives outside of Gravenhurst & can ask for a road report around May/June so we can decide then?? Is that OK?  Who's doing all or part of the the route from Ottawa to TO?  OldSchool/Jerry?  Is it too soon to firm any of this stuff up?

Quite honestly, the map is a suggestion for planning purposes.  It's really up to the people riding a particular segment as to how they get from A to B to C.  You'll have your start location (A) and your next overnight location at (C).  How you get between them is really up to the riders there on the road.  Of course, if someone says "Hey, I wana join the ride, can I meet ya at Point B at noon?", then factor that in.  I hope any Point B riders speak up ahead of time and don't just look at the map and sit at the side of the road waiting for the thundering herd to pass by!!

You'll also need to factor in other things like road construction, weather, scouting reports on some sweet twisties, a really great rib joint, etc.  Pick a Road Captain and let majority rule be your guide!
