OK Gents,

I did a bit of work on the planning map:

- chopped out the Maritimes

(can be added back if anyone in NS, NL or PEI speak up!!)
- ran the routes to the overnight locations
- 2 routes to choose from for Day 2 (one if by land, two if by sea ... er ferry)
- Day 4 looks HUGE!
- Routed day 5 to Niagara
- added an overnight on the Lake Erie shore (suggestions welcome!)
- short Day 6 ending with the handoff in Detroit

Might I suggest taking 169 south from Washago will avoid dipping around Orillia and will also get you off the #11 earlier. At that point #11 is a 4-lane divided highway and essentially like one of the 400 series. 169 is a fairly straight road, but it is a good 2-lane and a lot more interesting than #11.

Map altered. And if you find once you're on the road, if you wana hug the lake or try some other route, that's cool! The ride is for the riders! Just make sure that if someone is planning to meet you at some particular point at some particular time, that you do your best to make it there or at least let them know about the change!

I'm a bit concerned about the length of the ride on day 4. 450 miles (725km) seems a bit long. The roads look like a LOT of fun, but what do the riders in that segment say?

So I have been thinking about the length of the day 4 and it is a killer. An idea I came up with is to change the route a bit, it will add some time but it will divide day 4 into 2 days. What I was thinking was to head from Ottawa to Algonquin Park via hwy 60 then spend the night in Algonquin Park. From Algonquin Park head south to Toronto via hwy 35 which is a great hwy and you avoid hwy 11 and the 400. What do you guys think?

I agree on your take of day 4 & your alternate sounds reasonable to me. I could meet up with you in the Orono/Peterborough area if you want. Not sure what our other ON brothers are planning, seems most of them are more directly north or west of TO. We do want to make a stop in the downtown area, right? How far west are you planning to ride?

Also, previous route posted by Old_School has us on a bunch of 400 series highways & the QEW. I realize he's not knowledgeable about local roads, so my guess is we would want to avoid these crazy, busy, massive 12~16 lane monsters with cars doing 120~140 km/hr, not my idea of a relaxing ride! (Alternates will add time, however) One 'Zilla monster on the back of the bike is enough! My 2 cents. Let's hear from you other guys n gals please.

I'm one of the ones west of TO. I was hoping to join up in the Orillia/Barrie area and make the run into Toronto or Pickering if that is going to be the stopover. I'll probably head home that night and then rejoin for the trip to Niagara. But if the route is down 115/35 I probably won't join until TO.

I agree with staying off the 400 series if possible. There are many nice secondary roads.

We could always head down 35 and cross over to 12 and meet up with you in Brechin then off to Toronto. I think that I would head as far as TO and thats it, I also would go as far east as Ottawa but I would also meet up with someone who can drive from Ottawa to a location closer to Algonquin park. Just a thought.

Im not too sure on the stop for TO but I would just turn around once we get there take a few photos and head back, the other option is I could hand it off to you at a meeting point and you could carry on to TO

OK, I like the idea of heading over to Brechin, know where it is & I can meet you guys there, then we head south towards TO, maybe hwy 12, it's not to bad.
My place is in Pickering (& mine was the offer of an overnite, if needed), it's on the way downtown, so we'll have to decide to stopover or continue on.
I guess time of day may be a factor in how far we go & when & where the next hand off is? I myself haven't decided how far west I'll go, & we still have
to get a route nailed thru town & picture locations there etc.

Im up for a meet up in Brechin theres a coffee shop there and then a ride down to Pickering would be nice, but may I suggest we jog over one and take hwy 23 south Lakeridge rd much nicer than hwy 12. Could take Hwy12 south to Beaverton which is on Lake Simcoe Let Godzilla paddle in the Lake then its a straight shot south from there on Lakeridge road / hwy 23. More bends and less traffic and ends up in Pickyournosering sorry Pickering.

Are you interested in heading west from Ottawa and meeting me somewhere towards Algonquin Park? If not I would still love to head out to Ottawa... its a beautiful ride from Muskoka to Ottawa

Hey guys, sorry about the lag there, was away on training for 4 weeks.

I can offer a big tent and sleeping bags for at least 4 people and I have a big driveway for parking (8-10 bikes) for the overnight.

But apparently I'm going alone. I was hoping a few more riders would chime in for the maritimes???

I guess I am heading to Quebec solo. Unless I get my wife's bike up and running..

Would you be heading all the way to Quebec City? If so, Charlevoix418 is offering a place to flop in Chateau Richer. Would you take the ferry (shorter and a forced rest) or by land (no ferry fare, more open schedule)?

I've asked Team New England if any of their riders intend to continue into New Brunswick. No takers so far.

Since I haven't heard anything from the Maritimes, it looks like Operator may be heading to Quebec instead of Nova Scotia. Can Fredricton-to-QC be ridden in one day?

Absolutely! This relay is intended to be SAFE, fun and a way to get to know our fellow SOHC'ers. This isn't a re-enactment of the Pony Express! At this point, we really need to look at what we can realistically do and plan the right number of days to do it. Since we're in the latter third of the relay, we have the luxury of waiting a bit to publish our schedule. But once we do publish dates and regions downstream start to plan on us hitting our marks, we'll need to do whatever we can to do exactly that.

What say we build in the stop in Edmunston. That way you have a little schedule fluff if you need to change your launch date due to weather. I'm also thinking that once we get a handoff date from Team New England that we may wana build in a few hold days at your house just in case. That way we can publish reliable numbers without anyone incurring a large hotel bill.

A lota people would like to know that. Closest firm date I've seen is 5/15 for the Kansas / Missouri handoff. Godzilla would then need to finish routes with Team Central, Team Mid-Atlantic and Team New England before it hits New Brunswick and Operator's hands. I'm keeping an eye out for updates and will let everyone know!!
