1971 cb 750 chopper with extra 836 engine, whats it worth?
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:41:53 AM »
I just bought an old 71 cb750 chopper as a winter project. bike is registered as a 71 but the engine numbers come back as a 72. Bike is complete, just hasn't ran in a few years. aftermarket frame, just not sure the make. Came with 2 extra engine with the top ends disassembled. One extra engine is a 74 and the other, the 836, has no numbers stamped in the case, i'm assuming they must be replacement cases. Anyway to tell just what year this engine may be? what is all this worth? i paid 950

Imagine how cheap it would be if you sold me the 836! Seriously, though good find and welcome .

It looks like an Amen, but is probably reraked by thr loks of it
Amens have a long motor mount both sides at rear of engine, somtimes people weld the left side on.
It would be flat along the rear edge, and radiused between the 2 motor mount holes on front edge.. ie thinner in the middle than the ends.

the easy give away on the frames are motor mounts in front & the rear axle plates there afew other things but like i said on my computer the pix are dark.look at the pix i posted.if you want to see other frames go to hondachopper.com then to choppers go to the bottom of the page and look at the other frames there,

An Ahmen frame! What a God send! ;D
Is that the kind of frame you pray stays together?
Nice buy mate, welcome to our wee corner of Hell. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Nice Chop mate, I don't think it's an Amen frame though, not that it matters, it looks pretty cool to me! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

i find the problem with 1970's frame is there were hundreds of companies making frames/tail sections,& everybody cut em up to fit what they wanted, design wise..

took a closer look at the frame, looks just like the one in the pics posted of the Amen, same motor mounts etc. Looked real close at the neck, if it wasn't originally at that rake, it was professionally done.

Think i should put the 836 in the bike? I'm not interested in makin it faster, just worth more.  I had a 160hp zx9 so i really don't waste much time or money trying to make my choppers fast, as they would fail in comparison. . . .

So the intention is to sell it on and make some money mate? If so, I wouldn't worry about installing the 836cc engine, choppers are mostly about "form over function", so chopper guys aren't really worried about performance, but more about cruising.

Tidy up that 836cc engine and sell it seperately and it'll go a fair way towards paying for the stuff you'll need to get that chopper nice and shiny and ready to sell for a fat profit, if that's what you want to do. Personally, I'd keep it for summer cruising........  ;)
