Detail...details. I am thinking about ditching ALL of the electrics and go with new stuff to open up the battery triangle, but I am not sure what are the best substitutions for what is in my 1975 CB750k. Can you list details, brands and where you got the goods?

Tweak - I agree, I fondly recall last summer when I'd go out about 8:30 a.m. and be shocked when My wife came home at 5:30 and I hadn't even left the garage at all.

Spinned - I went with a generic ignition switch that you can get from a dozen or so places, I got mine from Cycle X. This time around I'm going to pick one up from Parts N More, it looks a bit smaller and the key looks more like a real key. I got rid of the fuse box and put in a circuit breaker I also picked up from Cycle X, that will be back. I just used the stock solenoid and will probably use it again because it works and I see no reason to replace it. I also went and ran the neutral safety switch wire that come off the solenoid to ground and had no issues. I'm getting the reg/rec from CB750Supply.com, I looked at several other places and they were the first ones who had one actually in stock. I'm getting rid of the old style reg and rec (two separate units) and everyone I've talked to who has done this has had no problems. I haven't picked up a battery yet but I'll be going with one of the closed batteries that can be mounted in any position because I'm putting mine on it's side instead of up and down.

Sssooo I finally had some time to get work done, thank goodness for spring break! I had to make some mods to the rear fender so it would work better with my plan.

I'm pulling off the early model carbs I put on in the first build and going back to the stock '77 F ones. I knew when I took them off they leaked pretty bad from the fuel connections and the float bowls. I figured this out not only because of the actual fuel puddles but also the gobs of permatex all over the rims of the bowels. When I got them opened up, oh my, the P.O. clearly brought a gun to a knife fight!

The push in slow jets were chewed and pretty jacked but I think they will be ok till I find a different set. The floats were all crooked and WAY out of adjustment. You'd figure the guy could read, he gave me the Climer manual when I bought the bike and the right level is in the carb section but oh well.

That's one of the nicer ones too!

I tried polishing them but I didn't want to take a month to get them done! Besides this will motivate me to save up for a nice set of CR's from Dynoman next winter!!

I did some other work laying out how I'm going to mount the rear sets but nothing worth taking pictures of. A buddy of mine works in a sheet metal shop and thinks he can get all of my new sheet metal cut on their water jet so I'll end here and hopefully post pics of that stuff next time.

Man I really love what you did with the tail light. That's by far my biggest angst with this bike (which I have as well)...the big red baboon ass. I'm currently looking for a solution like you've done here. Wanna come do mine?

Well I have actually scrapped that version and am doing something a bit more radical this time! The next two weeks hold big changes, lots of fab done and possibly the long awaited trip to the welders, I will update soon!

Nope, I have a whole new plan & the tail section is part of the seat. There are some almost examples out there, the federal will be very short, yes I know, tons of spray up my back. If you've seen the seats that have the tail section apolstered like the seat, one piece, that is almost like my vision.

how did wiring the taillight go? i am thinking of an all in one taillight for my 76f but am unsure of the extra wiring items ill need. load resistors(which ones)? or an electronic flasher(which one)? or what? i have cheap mini catseye front signals, non-led but want to use an led rear piece. i am getting better with electronics but have much to learn.
your bike looks really slick by the way.

Thanks for the comment and it looks very un-slick right now. I planned on doing LED turn signals and brake light when I picked up the bike but given the issues with LED turn signals I ran into I ditched the whole plan. When I rebuilt the bike the first time I didn't even bother with turn signals. So no turn signals, no flasher, so I'm not much help there but with the tail light I have never had any issues with it working. I did wire the entire bike from scratch and once I figured out what the wires on the light did, I just worked them into the plan and noted the color differences in the wires on my plan. I know the Yama light I used is also made with integrated turn signals and if I was looking at using that style of light, that's the way I'd go.

The foolish things we say when were having a good day! I was offered a job at the place I'd been interning with and went from 15 to 20 hrs a week to 45 to 50. Believe me, I'm not complaning about having a job but damn I wanted to be so much farther along.

Just a quickie for now, I saw a Honda chopper where the side was open and thought it looked cool so here I go.

The paint is what happens when gas meets crappy grill paint.

Some guide holes and ta-da!

I cleaned up the inside with my Dremmel and a sanding wheel, and the sprocket cover will just be left off. I got plently of grief for wanting to run without a chain guard because of flinging grease and I'm sure I'll get it again for this little job. I have the little rubber plug that goes in the stator for the wires and I'll dab a bit more silicone around it when it all goes back together. I actually have plans to get all the welding done next week so I need to have a big weekend.

Man what a weekend of cutting and grinding! I got all of the pieces I'm making cut and ready to go and be welded next weekend and that hacksaw blade never knew what hit it. I also got the frame cut for the Gordon kit and sliced off the back. On the downside, my buddy who had the guys at his shop cut my seat pan figured they could do it with their eyes closed and, well, needless to say I'll be making another one soon.

This is from 9 days ago...

and from yesterday.

I still need to do some cleaning up, especially around the tail, but I think I turned the corner.

So I drove 550 miles to have my nephew who is a gifted welder lay some heat on the Beast and it was worth it. The only down side is that I had so much to do and such a small amount of time to get it done in, some stuff is in limbo as I get ready to head back to Denver tomorrow. We started with the tail and covered the ends of the frame I cut off and shaped. Then we remounted the support that was originally farther back and filled in the weird gaps which I will finish up when I get back home.

I plan to mount a round oil tank under the now horizontal battery so I had to come up with some tricky mounts to avoid the chain.

I had seen some other F owners answers to the issue of foot pegs/rear sets but went sort of my own way. These are placed where they are so that I'm still somewhat comfortable but clear the new exhaust.

The white stuff is powder coating that we didn't clean far enough back, but it didn't get into the weld. Next we tackled the Gordon frame kit, courtesy of HedNut, and it fits like a dream.

I got most of the fittings welded in the new oil tank and the battery box is mostly done but I need to do some more fitting now that I have got this far. With this being Easter weekend there were family obligations that complicated things so I'm going to have to figure out how to get back on track when I get home. I have 2 weeks left of school and need to get that safely home first, then it's balls out on this mess.

Hey freaky looking good so far. If I can ask a quick question was there a specific rating on the switches you used for the coils (kill switch), headlight and such? I'm going a custom route with my wiring and I'm going a switch route too for lights and kill switch. I picked up switches that support 10a max. Thanks and keep up the sweet build. -Sky

As far as the switches I used for the high beam & kill switch, I picked some up at Car Quest & I didn't even look at the rating. I used the switch from Cycle X and the battery terminates there and my kill switch is between the switch and coil. I think you should be ok with a 10a switch, I can go see what mine are later.

Aaahhhh the best laid plans of mice and men! The last few weeks of school have been BRUTAL but I have done it and I graduated last Saturday!

I HAD a nice job (not great but a good start) until the company we were contracted with decided to slash our budget now that this big project we were working on is over.

Now I have no job, no school, and no bike. BUT I DO HAVE THE TIME TO CHANGE THE LAST ONE!!

So in the last two days I've got the seat pan almost finished, I'd rather wait with the pictures so if I screw it up no one will know.

I've also managed to get the oil tank all fitted and ready to go along with all the frame bits to the welder. The head is in the shop and hopefully back by the end of the week then it will get painted along with the rest of the motor. So good things are happening now and keep your fingers crossed and I'll be posting some pics soon!

By the way, I had a bet with my wife that I'd have this done by this coming Saturday (I made the bet well over a month ago) and that won't be happening so now I have to send her to California for a vacation...too bad she won't be taking the kids!

So I got everything welded and that part of this party is done, I might do a bit more touch up grinding here and there but I'm not sure.

I also have the mounts in for the circuit breaker and reg/rec unit under the gas tank.

I've been planning a new seat for a while and I've been looking around here to get some ideas on how to do it and this is what I came up with.

I just got my head back yesterday and now I'm going to paint it and send it back to the shop so they can put my valves in. I'm also going to take my cylinders in because I've tried cleaning off the mating surfaces because I've tried and I don't want to jack it up.

soak old gaskets in chem dip carb cleaner overnight and scrape with a razor carefully. works really well. did it on my cylinders and head

wow what an awesome thread. that frame is turning out really solid and I love what you did earlier with the switches in the headlight and on that bracket.

The headlight will be going on something else, I've got a new plan here and as for controls, GSXR front master cylinder. The brake line hooks up on the front, pretty tricky, stay tooned!
