Inner wheel bearing-spacer 77 750f

I am in the process of replacing my rear wheel bearings, and after seating the inner bearing, both outside, and inner bearing were binding. I had installed the outer bearing, placed the spacer in, and seated fully the inner bearing. I then pulled the inner bearing out slightly, and now the spacer is about 1/8 inch I believe distance from either bearing total. How do you know if the inner bearing and spacer is positioned correctly? Does that spacer have some slack?

The bearing under the retainer goes in first and the retainer pins it down. Then the spacer lays in the hub and you drive the "B" bearing in till it just touches the spacer. The slightest friction of the spacer between the 2 bearings is ideal.

This was buried in another link, so I lifted it. The middle talks about the spacer.
Replacement:

"... BUT two things to watch out for. The first is the Bearing with the Circlip (or retainer, MC) must be driven as far as you can see the Circlip slot exposed. The second is Do NOT Drive the second bearing in too far that it JAMS the spacer hard up against the first (installed) bearing. It must be just a little slack. So it makes sense to put in the bearing WITH the Circlip (or retainer, MC) FIRST."

Thanks for the help MC. When I put in the outer bearing (retainer end) I made sure I put it in all the way. Then put in the spacer, it kind of connected onto the inside of the outer bearing. Then I think what when I was putting in the inside bearing-during the hammering, it may have jarred the spacer off kilter from the outer bearing. I think it is sort of a finesse thing when you get the inside bearing close. Also, anyone removing their bearing retainer on the 750 Supersport should try normal or counter clockwise to loosen, that's what mine was on the front and rear. BTW article link was also good thanks.
