SL350 gearbox problem
« on: March 04, 2011, 06:05:46 PM »
I have a sl350 k2 that I'm gradually getting back on the road. I havn't ridden it for about 18 months, but as I recall everything worked as it should.

Just dragged it out of the corner of the shed and got her going again, but noticed a problem with not dropping into 3rd gear properly.
It seems to be half in half out. If I rev it, it feels like the clutch is slipping. If it just idles along, it feels like it is jumping into and out of gear. All other gears are OK.  ???

Any thoughts ?

Selector fork bent
engagement dogs broke
gearchange shaft spring(s) weak or broken

Thats to start with
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Another thing with these engines is the the shift forks are soft.  They wear on the sides, getting bad enough that they start to bind.  The 350 twin is a cool little motor, but they are not particularly durable.
