Would this work in a 76 550?
« on: January 13, 2011, 05:36:58 PM »
Dime City has a good deal in an awesome speedo/tach/dummy light all in one unit:

Turn and bright light indicator should not be hard to hook up but I am wondering about the speedo/tach. Also there is a fuel light indicator on the unit. Any one installed an aftermarket sensor in their tank?

As far as the sensor in the tank no. But my friend installed the same one you are looking at he loves it. It has a blue light so he can see how fast he's going and what rpm he is at. He had a little trouble installing at first but figued it out. I guess the only problem is calibrating the speedo to the exact speed he's going at..
Hope this helps in out a bit..

Kind regards Sniper

Would be a tricky setup in a 550 running a 650 cam. Would need to calibrate the speedo for the 550 and the tach for the 650. Wonder if that's even possible.

Looks like the speedo is a magnetic counter for attaching to either wheel - you probably measure the wheel outer and tell the
processor - like on bycycle systems. The revs are normally taken from the power feed to the coils, so it just counts sparks, hard
to go wrong and will work on any bike.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.
