I have been reading many different ways to remove rust and there is no 'wrong' way. I just found this way to be easy, cheap, and very effective.
What you need:
baking soda & lemon juice
plastic container & spoon
Optional items:
Coke
000 steel wool
WD40
Buffing wheel
These are the items I cleaned:
Mix the baking soda and lemon juice together in the plastic container. Mix slowly as it will fiz and bubble quickly. It should be the consistancy of a slightly melted milkshake.
Make enough mixture to completely cover items you are cleaning. Submurge the items and let sit for 24 hours.
You will know it's ready when it looks like this:
Remove and rinse items:
An optional step is to soak the items in coke for a few hours to loosen any gunk or grime that will not be removed with the baking soda/lemon juice.
Remove items, spray with WD40, and scrub with steel wool. Then spend few minutes on a buffing wheel and you are good to go.
Now you are ready use as it or paint/power coat.
