Topic: Will a CL77 exhaust fit the left side of a CB550?

I know that it would only cover half of the bike's exhaust needs, but the subject line says it all, really.  Would those pretty scrambler pipes from a CL77 fit a CB550?  The motors look superficially similar, kind of like the GS500's twin being a cut-down version of the GS1100 motor.

I tried to look up the bore spacing of both engines but came up empty.  That would at least be a start.

Any info much appreciated.

I would imagine you'll be standing alone on this one.

The first thought I had was that the 550 top end is certainly more vertical, but if that was the only issue, a couple kerf cuts might solve that, good luck.

Thanks.  Since I'd have to go custom on the right side anyhow to do this, it would probably work better to just go custom for the whole thing... IF I go this way, that is.  We'll see.

Here's another dumb question - is there such a thing as a custom-bent double-walled exhaust?

That would be one heck of a thing to bend.  Perhaps do an exhaust with good heat shields instead.

I figured.  I like the looks of double-wall a lot better than heat shield, but it seems that I only see the DW from manufacturers, not custom-bent stuff.  It would not be at all surprising if this was prohibitively difficult/expensive.

Do some searching for custom exhaust pipes. I have a friend that has mandrals to bend tubes. He buys double-wall 'starter ends' that have about a 60-degree bend. They can be butt-welded to single or double-wall pipe. Plain steel or stainless is available.  The major item is to get the new pipe to seal against the exhaust port or to slip over the spigots.....whichever you have.

I have a lot of CL77 pipes but dought if they would work. Another option would be to pick up some damaged or rusty CB77 or CA77 header pipes and cut them to re-weld to your new design.
