You do know that it is you that has the ability to ignore someone, you may have pressed it by mistake because you can only see that message if it is you ignoring someone. The ignore button is in the bottom left hand corner of each post in the thread. I choose not too use it.... ;)

Absolutely. You go to any of that person's postings you will find an "unignore" button at the bottom left. It flips between being "ignore" and "unignore".

You definitely do not want to ignore TT!  :)

If you check the forum with an Iphone it is VERY easy to accidentally ignore someone because you scroll by touching the screen and "flicking".  I have accidentally ignored numerous posters due to this.

Once politics was removed from the otherwise "open forum", a lot of "ignoring" ceased.  If we're going to eliminate politics, I think we should eliminate the ignore button.  :)

Good idea, but I have to disagree.

At my house our computers are in a common area where anyone can walk through.  I choose to ignore some users simply due to their avatar.  With elementary aged children of my own and their frequent visitors, I feel that it is best for me to just ignore those users whose avatar might be (to me) PG13 or R rated.

Not a big deal, but I really appreciate the mods providing the ignore button.

I know this is a forum for adults, and I don't begrudge the freedom that enables one to choose the image they use in their avatar.  I am all for it.  But I do enjoy being able to ignore users whose image might not be kid friendly.

You're right.  I'm with ya' on the avatar stuff - I kinda forgot about that.  There's a way to ignore just the avatar and I'll be looking for that capability as I have folks walking through the house that shouldn't see that stuff as well.

There's a check box "Don't show users avatars" in your profile.

I think it's historically there for people on dial-up to speed page loading...

I do this on most forums to speed things up and make things feel less cluttered.

Thanks for the info SteveD - I did not know that.  Now I have to weigh out whether it is better to disable display of all avatars or continue to ignore certain users. A dilemna - because I really enjoy some of the avatars... :-\

Cool spelling of the word "dilemna" there.

The recent Hollywood blockbuster "Dilemma" caused a huge fuss over here between the people who scoffed at the "American" spelling and those who pointed out that both are acceptable (and that only those over 120 years old would want to spell it the "old" way.

Personally, I like dilemna as it sort of rolls off the tongue (and confuses people!)
