WANTED: Plating service near Toronto
« on: January 12, 2011, 05:54:34 AM »
The fenders on my 350 Four are sound but are covered with small pits due to surface failure.  Although polished and clean, these pits are still very evident and extend through the original chrome.  I was wondering if anyone in the area could recommend a near-by source for re-chroming them, and also if there was any estimate of how much it would cost to have them re-finished.

Platingmaster was real good probably still is.. Bike plating places usually do way better work, than bumper places thet dont SPECIALIZE in bike parts.. your choice..

For good resto purposes it may be too good, but let them know what you need.

Mayfair plating 96 Carlaw ave south of Eastern. 416 461 4435
Does show plating, is connected to the vintage bike crowd does excellent work.

The second one I have used is near the airport, still looking for info. Caters to the Harley crowd and does excellent work. As soon as I find my old bill I will post info.

I have also been approached by an individual / chromer who wants to get a slice of the bike chroming business so I will get his info and post, also one of my buds works for Kreators Custom Cycle so I will find out who they use.

I second Mayfair on Carlaw. I used them for everything on my CB77. And I phoned a lot of chromers in the area. Mayfair was the cheapest, by a fair bit. A real old school shop, writes everything on a bill pad, was quick, reminded me of an old blacksmith shop like I haven't seen in 20 years. Anyway, their price on a rim was, I think, $175, and one of the high-end joints wanted close to $350. He rechromed the tank panel on my CB77 for $75, and had to bang a ton of dents out of it. It was near perfect when I got it back. John

I used them recently for some turn signal stems for my cb350f.  $25 each.  Great job and quick turnaround.

Thanks for the post guys.  My front fender is pitted the same, but I bought a better one last fall.  Last year I was looking & found a guy in Scarberia but he only did "hard" chrome, not "ornamental" (his terms).  I had aother quote from a guy near Ottawa (found from a Kingston buddy)  & he wanted $150 for one fork ear, INsane!! These other guys sound much more reasonable.

Sounds like I'm going to have to check out Mayfair and see what they would charge for doing up some fenders.  Thanks for all the leads and advise.  That's what I was looking for.

Hmmm.....I wonder what they would charge to replate to car bumpers? The ones on my dart look like #$%*e and the front is peeling all to hell

Probably can't afford them right now anyways but I can dream
