Camchain breaking / riveting tool
« on: January 14, 2011, 02:21:43 AM »
Hey all,

I was thinking about changing my camchain, but I would have liked to do so without tearing down the engine, there's nothing I want to do at that level just yet.
Having read around and thought about this, I figured I would need a tool that would not only be functional, but need to fit and be operational on a chain that was still on the bike. If i'm not mistaken, the chain size is 219 and I've found this tool for sale:

CKS #219 chain tool

Is this the right tool I've found, will it break and rivet the chain back?
Has anyone done this?

I have a spare DID chain for my 350F, heard they were of decent quality, however I'm also hesitating wether I should replace it with an original chain from DSS instead?

Any feedback or comments appreciated  ;)

I run the split master link chains on my CB350F and CB400F track bikes.  I rev them probably way harder than you ever would your street bike and I have never had a problem with them.  There are two types of master links on the chains that I have used.  One is simply a press fit link and the other is designed to be peened in the middle of the pin.  All that I have ever used on the peen type links is a center punch.  Hold something heavy (ie sledgehammer head) against the back side of the links and peen the other side with a center punch.
