carb jetting

??? I need some info on how to jet my carbs running open aftermarket 4 into 2 megaphones (killer loud) w/ velocity stacks. I ran it all last summer with stock jetting and pod filters, but it seemed to run too lean.

my advice is to switch to an airbox.

the airbox is ugly... and annoying to remove/replace, but far less annoying than sputtering, lean running, and a never-ending nightmare of tweaks which will all be in vain if you stick with stacks or pods.

This might be the single most common topic on this forum.  You could try a search.  There is also a FAQ about carbs, too.

There are also about 20 different models of SOHC4.  With specific differences to address per model. Knowing which one you have is a step in the right direction.

Regardless, unless you have a Dynomometer and an exhaust gas analyzer, learning to read the spark plugs deposits, will tell a great deal about the current conditions of combustion.  This will go a long way toward knowing if you need to go richer or leaner in mixture.  A test track of some kind, and doing "plug chops" while noting the marked throttle setting, then reading the plugs will tell you which of the three fuel metering devices in the carbs need addressing.

See: http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html

It's futile to do any of this until AFTER you done a complete and thorough tune-up and a carb sync check.

Good luck,
