Get a tube of Muffler Mender at the parts store.  It's a thick paste that cures when it gets heated up by the exhaust.  It's been plugging a hole in one of my stock 550 pipes for a few years.  Obviously any patch job like this is only temporary, though, because the rust is happening from the inside out, and the total damage is much larger than the size of the hole.

Good ol' JB Weld has worked well for years for me.  But as mentioned earlier, its only a temporary fix.....   >:(

If you leave the hole it lets the moisture out!

Even better, if you take all the mufflers off then there's nowhere for moisture to get trapped at all!  Problem solved! ;D

the muffler mend tape, cut a 1/2 square or circle, stick on.It doesnt look as crappy as a wad of putty, and its metal tape, temp fix but quick and easy.Seems to last a couple of years so far.

The mending paste is pushed into the hole and smoothed out to match the contour of the muffler.  You don't just ball it up and stick it on the outside of the hole. ::) ;D
