Slingshot-cycle Brake line Question
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:24:38 PM »
Hey guys

How does using Slingshot's one piece brake line eliminate the need for Honda's brake valve (3 way joint) and it does, how would one use as the stop switch if eliminating to 3 way joint?? Am is misuderstanding the part's application?  I've got a 1975 CB 750 K that I want to convert to SS lines and a dual disc.  It would be nice to eliminate the brake pipe as well. I am not going for stock on my build.
Hopefully this link, to the part in question, works.

Thanks for your help.

Edit
Note **I am also looking to run clubman or clip on bars and need to consider the shorter distance.

I would drop him an email on his site. He's pretty good about getting back to ya and very helpful. I'm sure he can lead you in the right direction.

Have been writing him. He wrote that he did not have double banjo bolt light switch to operate the brake light. So I wonder with the stop switch built into Honda's 3 way valve, how or where do I get a stop switch if the valve is eliminated.  Doesnt sound like Slingshot supplies them.  Thanks

There are lots of brake lines and lots of choices.

First off that "3 way joint" is actually not any sort of valve at all, its the brake light switch.  You can continue to use it, but not with that brake line you're looking at.  If you want to use the brake line you're looking at with your stock master cylinder then you are going to lose your front brake light switch.

So you can do one of several things.  One is you can buy another master cylinder (MC), one that has a brake light switch built into it.  If you are going to do that you might as well decide now if you want dual disks or not, and if so when you go looking for a new MC get one with either a 5/8" or 16mm bore.  The size will be indicated somewhere on the MC body.

Your other choice is to get a shorter braided line, one to go from the MC to the stock brake switch and then run a second braided line from it to your caliper.  At the caliper you have three choices in how to attach it.  You can buy a line similar to the stock one with the correct fitting on its end.  You can buy a line with a banjo on both ends and attach it to the switch on one end and directly to the caliper on the other - even though the caliper was never designed for this attachment many folks get away with it.  The third option is to put a universal fitting (10mmx1.25 to AN-3) in the caliper, a universal banjo at the brake switch end of a universal hose.  If you go this second route you simply duplicate the line for the second brake and use an extended banjo bolt at the stock brake switch.  The last method allows you to add the second brake later, with no loss of existing parts.

That help any?

Kong - that helped immensely except to find a source for the right size universal hoses.  Any favorite supplier in mind?

Unless:

Roach - is the part, in the z1 link, the double banjo switch that will work with the slingshot one piece hose? I thank you for this also.

Thanks guys.

I have that brake line with clubmans. I just removed the stop switch from the front and rely on the foot brake to activate the brake light.

Between Goodridge and Russell (a division of Edlebrock) they make every brake line fitting you can imagine and the stuff is sold by just about every major distributor.  Because I've just recently come back to Hondas in a small way I've bought all of the lines and fittings I've got in the last few years from J&P cycle.
