Stator cover 'Honda' insert
« on: March 21, 2012, 07:09:15 PM »
I'm installing a new "honda" insert on my stator cover. ('74 550) I have the little clips that go on the nubs of the insert. (apparently, I bought the last 3 clips in Canada before they are being discontinued)

Can I just slip the little clips over the insert nubs and press into the cover? I may want to have access to the stator, and there are 3 screws from the outside, so I don't think I want to add any goop to the nubs. Will it hold fine without any 'goop'?

Put the clips in the holes on the cover then push the emblem in

Hey Brian.

Got any tips for removing that emblem from its recess?  Without marring it up, off course.

I've lost mine on the road somewhere. On close inspection I've discovered three somewhat darker spots (beside the holes that contain them little pins) that could be the remains of some glue.
Question is: did the first owner put it there or was it Honda, not confident in them three "push on fix J type".
BTW you should be able to remove the emblem by prying it loose from these little pins with a screwdriver.

I've seen too many of them lost to take a chance on just the pin covers holding it in place, so I used a little bit of non- hardening gasket sealant in 3 spots of the underside in addition to the pin covers. TT, I was able to remove it without marring using a little flat blade screwdriver and starting at the bottom.

Yup, the other way will produce a less than acceptable result. (Usually)

TT somewhere in my toolkit is a victorian bone handle butter knife that i use (I would think a modern "narrow "Spatula" would do)---Also used for tank badges.

As to the glue Deltarider---definately NOT a Honda belt and braces, problem with the clips is by the time somebody wants the emblem off and to refit it the clips are years old and have corroded a bit, loosing the grip and springiness, we always ordered new for accident work.
