Float Valve Set Question
« on: January 17, 2011, 09:19:25 AM »
Looked at the float valve set (I think I need to replace them) and in the description it says "set".  Is that a set of four or a set of one?

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I think you will need 4 of them.  I had good luck with the parts from this place...

So, through BB I will need to order four and it will cost me $80+ vs. that links $40+?

I ordered 2 for my CB360 awhile back from this place.  I cannot tell you if they were OEM.  I had a leaky valve.  I popped it the two replacements and they worked great.  This was one of the few places I could find just the valve sets without having to buy an entire rebuild kit.

Yes, you seem to be correct on the pricing.  I was skeptical also.  Quick deliver and like I said, they worked fine.

If yours does not have the rubber tip on the end you can try to lap them in with lapping compound used for lapping valves. worked for me and worth trying for the money. ;) Also make sure they are not in a bind from the float not being square.

Are you talking about #2 in the pic?

If so the Honda part # is 16011-375-004.  The set includes a new float valve, seat, and gasket.  That is oem Keihin from the Honda dealer.  Yes, you need 4 of them.

Carb Kits Capital only lists that part number for the CB450.  For the CB750K 1969-1975 they list part number 16011-302-000 or 16011-341-004 for 1976 CB750K.  I would guess Carb Kits Capital is selling aftermarket parts.  It isn't just price that matters sometimes.

Yup, #2 is what I was speaking of.  I may need to recheck my work first to make sure I did not mess up on something.  Yea, I have fuel coming out of the tubes after this last cleaning.  Hopefully i did not clean them too well, lol.  It took a bit of banging to the float bowls to get fuel through.

I didn't have any luck with the folks at Bike Bandit for my float valve set, but try Z1 Enterprises in New York, ask for Chris Baker(Bakes) He hooked me up with a float valve set for my K-7, in fact, they have hooked me up on a number of hard to find items I needed for my resto project. Good luck and ride safe!

Found this interesting.  I do not remember a rubber tip on them.  I would imagine you are doing this with valve in the seat.  How are you spinning the valve?  I think they fell most of the way in.  I dropped them in perty quick and did not pay that much attention.

I have fixed a stubbornly leaking float valve by 'lapping' it in it's seat with a piece of rubber tube in  my battery drill held against the end of the valve and 'zipped' in forward and reverse quickly , first having stuffed the valve seat with TOOTHPASTE  8) as a grinding agent.......
worked great for me.... :)

The fab thing is that we all have ideas ........ I know I have learned/retained some uber-fab things about my bike from other members here........ the collective 'brain power' on this Forum is unique and unsurpassed in any e-medium IMO.... and you can actually MEET some of the posters and drink beers with them and attend SOHC related stuff in their company and generally talk old Honda bike stuff.... but mostly get drunk together ;D....

Tipper +1 on everything Spanner1 said. I have lapped many a valve and never thought of doing this on my carbs until I read about it on this site. Tons of good tips here. I constantly read the tips&tricks section. ;)
