4-1 Exhaust Fitment??
« on: January 16, 2011, 03:22:35 PM »
Will this exhaust fit my 1976 K6?

Its off a 1978 (not sure which model) and I assume it will need different exhaust flange collars with shims (what model years will work?)

Thank you in advance -S

It's not a stock K8 header, doesn't look like an F either:

The motor is the same, so it may fit but centerstand might be in the way?

Good Luck.

As far as the attach points to the engine... They are kind of all compatible in that the holes are the same in the head.  The difference is what's in the holes.... whether you have studs in your head (which is what you need with your style of header) or whether you have the flange/nipple thing attached to your head with two phillips screws.  The studs arrangement requires the two collars and flower.  The other arrangement has slotted ends of the pipe which slide over the flange.  The pipe is then tightened down with the flower which doubles as a clamp.  I'm told on good authority that the flower/clamp should NOT touch the head.... rather it should have a gap which aids in keeping the pipe from "bluing".  I think the idea is to keep the clamp from getting hot from contact with the head.

yes, currently my head has the screw-in flange (stock) and it will need the collar/flange (attaches directly to the head) with shims/flowers..ok gotcha

and if i am reading this correctly..any late model honda sohc flange/shim should work??

not all shims will fit, but i believe most collars will... ive been trying to find out what fits what myself, and i can tell you the shims from a '79 would not work on my 76k...
