Wow, beautiful bike. My wife has a '75 400f project that we're going to be wrenching on together.

Was '75 the only year that the side covers were painted the same color as the tank?

Thanks guys. '77s also had the side covers painted the same colour as the tank. There are many differences when comparing '77 400s to the 75/76 though.

75 and 77 panels matched. 76 side covers were black.

Me, my S/O and my best friend AND his wife all have 75 and 76 CB400Fs when we roll around here we get LOTS of looks!

Perhaps you could help me with an issue I am having with a 75 CB400F that I am reserecting. Does the muffler bolt directly to the frame or is there a bracket between the frame and muffler. David Silver sells a bracket. I don't have one on my bike. Your bike looks great!

The muffler should bolt to a bracket on a loop welded to the frame.  The loop is just aft of the rear brake pedal location.
