Fair price for a 1978 CB750K
« on: January 17, 2011, 10:12:52 PM »
I am trying to purchase a 1978 CB750K the guys is selling it for $500 he said the bike caught on fire. When I went to go look at it had no handlebars, the gauges where burned up completely and the carbs where melted down. The only salvageable parts where the OEM exhaust which was almost intact, the wheels, forks, chain and rear fender. The guy claimed the engine had been rebuild and it only had $4000 miles. Does $500 sound like too much.

IDK, just for comparison, I picked up my 78 CB750K, one owner bike, 11,000 miles, running good, for $850, locally. A lot may depend on your area of the country, but around here decent runners can be found for under $1000.

Avoid the burned up bike. Be patient.

I have paid:
$25 for a CB400F
$50 for a CB400F
$150 for a CB400F
$150 for a CB550F
$50 for a 1972 CB750 (frozen motor)
$150 for a 1974 CB750
$250 for a 1976 CB750

All were more or less complete bikes, turned over (except the 72), without title and five of them are now titled, restored and beautifully running bikes. For Hondas, I would never pay more than a $1 a cc for an unrestored bike.
