Would it be totally ridiculous to put clubman bars on my 78 750f without rear sets? I'd love to put rear sets on, but my wife likes to ride with me. Is there a good (safe) way to put passenger pegs on with rear sets? What do you think? This is the bike.

Remove wife from the equation... all problems solved.

My younger brother has clubmans with stock foot controls, it looks alright.

It rather depends on your height (and inseam). The clubmans will fold you down over the bike, putting your weight on your wrists, since that fairing will not let the airflow lift your weight for you at speed. For a test fit, grab the sides of the headlight as you sit on the bike: that's approximately the same reach for the rest of your body. If you are less than 6 feet, it won't be terribly uncomfortable, but if you are, say, 6' tall and 170 lbs., you may decide the bike's not what you wanted, afterward.

I have seen this a lot here locally: it makes the bikes appear on Craigslist afterward...

I keep telling her that I'll just get her a bike, but she's afraid to ride her own. She just recently got the courage to get on a bicycle again. She has a bad history with two wheels.

I'm 6' with a 34" inseam. I'm mainly worried that my elbows will be on my knees. I'll probably just throw the clubmans on and see how it feels. I can always take them off. For now I just flip down the rear pegs and put my feet on them while I'm riding out of town.

I'm 5'10" with a 34" inseam, and the 2 bikes where the owners had me install those (for them) this past year are very uncomfortable for even me. One of the bikes is about to come back for a customized fitting of those high-dollar Terrazi rearsets, as the owner is 6'4" and looks like a matchbook when he folds up on the stock pegs to shift or brake. I have to make some extended shift and brake levers for it. He rides with a backpack: it about pounds him into the gas tank after 100 miles or so. We'll probably make a custom small carry rack for that, too.

You could put the clubmans on upside down--as I did.
No rearsets and more comfortable but not quite as cool.

Nice Bike! I run clubmans and not rearsets on my 77f but I am only 5'8". The choices for rearsets for your bike are limited at best unless you want to do some welding.

I have clubmans and stock controls on my 77 750F. I am 6' tall and it is plenty comfortable for me. I have the stock seat still and feel like a lower riding seat will make it a lot better. At speed I really lay down over the tank, a lower seat would let me angle up a little more than the flat position I get in now. However I do worry that with my long legs, I will have an issue with the lower seat and stock foot controls.

If I TRY while riding I can rest my elbows on my knees. And honestly I almost like it. On a long highway ride at high speeds, it gives me somewhere to put my arms and is mildly comfortable that way.

As I said, I am 6' with a 32 to 34 inseam.

Use the low bars. The F footrests are semi rear sets anyway compared to the K. (I think, am I right?)

The bike in my avatar has clubmans and stock K controls. I loved it, I was 19 yo.

Some have pointed out that drilling and mounting rear sets to the large peg mounts on the 750F isn't too difficult. This is my eventual plan.

And yea, being 25 probably has a decent bit to do with it.

HM is right in pointing out the bikini fairing will block some wind which would otherwise take some weigth off your wrists. That's where the youth comes in.

I'm sure being less than 30 should make it a bit easier. School just started today, so hopefully I'll get a chance by this weekend to put them on. I'll post pics when I do. I may leave the fairing on at first, hit the highway, then take it off to see the difference. I'll report what I find out.

It is all about seat height in relation to the bars. If you install clubmans, and are over 30 years old, also dish the seat in the solo cafe style. This combination works great. It also requires your kness to be bent alittle more. Rearsets would help with that issue. I have owned very comfortable, and very uncomfortable cafe bikes. That got me wondering why.......

I ran clubmans on my old 75 cb750f with stock foot pegs. I am about 6' 4" so I was a little cramped but could easily rest my elbows on my knees and could really get tucked up into the bike. Made the bike feel tiny. Only got to ride it for about 40 miles so don't know about long rides.

That being said, I have clubmans on my 77 cb 750k and am trying to decide if I want to leave them on or not as I am prepping for a long trip. Being so tall and young, I don't like my back being slouched back and feel more comfortable up on my wrists and when going down the highway can just rest on my knees. Guess it is all about just finding out what works for the individual rider.

Jim, I've already got the bars. I got them for free from a friend, so that's why I'm gonna play with them. Thanks for the link. I'll show it to my friends to see if they need new bars.

Kansas, thanks for your input. I'm gonna just put them on and see what I think. I'm ready to start messing with things on my bike. I wish I had a shop to work on my bike in because we're about to get snow and ice here in NW Arkansas. Maybe I'll get to it this weekend.

Well, I got the clubmans on before the snow, but my throttle cable broke too.

It's actually a good thing. Check out what the cable looked like.

nice, yes those are the way clubmans are supposed to be. Personally I think they look weird when upside down. I would keep the stock footpegs (they look good with the clubmans), or possibly get some cb400f pegs which are a little set back but not so much to give leg cramps. I was going to put rear-sets on my cb400f bike when I first built it 6/7 years ago but glad I didn't as I don't race it and I'm 5' 10". The bike is small enough.

72 cb500, solo seat, adjustable clubmans (tommaselli condors) stock foot pegs... pretty damn comfortable if you ask me, its not a rolling couch or anything, but im only 5'11"... if you dont like the clubmans look for some condors, get as much or as little drop as you want in mere minutes...

I run clubmans and stock bars. I keep the grips on both. When the wife wants to ride or we go on a trip I just swap out the bars accordingly. Takes all of 15 minutes. Just an idea.

I ride with clubmans with stock foot pegs.

6'4" 215lbs, and it is okay for awhile, but my wrist start killing me after a hundred miles or so. I find myself moving around a lot on the bike and changing arm positions. I do ride down the interstate with my elbows sitting on my knees, which is about the only way I can ride on the interstate, the wind tries and knocks you off..

I don't know how rearsets would help in relieving my wrists though, it seems like it would extend my body out farther away, and make the reach to the bars more difficult.. I don't know though, I have never tried them, they are too expensive for me to get, and I'm not crafty enough to make my own.

Thanks for the props on the bike guys. Asom, that's a good idea. I'll look into getting some stock bars. I'm just sitting on my hands until my throttle cables come in now. Hopefully it'll start to warm up soon.

I have 2 - 750's with clubman style bars.
My 78K has stock pegs and I ride long distances from time to time. Works well for me. 6' 2" 185lbs
The 72K has rear sets and is fast fun, but not for any real hwy time.

I'm pretty sure that they're stock. I was lucky that they came on it. They even had that paint. I probably would have painted them solid black if I had it done, but I like it the way they are.

Those are stock rims. Paintjob isn't but the wheels are.

I'll add my experience. I've got a 550 with non-adjustable clubmans and I've taken pretty long rides on it, +200 miles. I can feel it in my lower back, but ab and lower back exercises help, not to mention shoulders. I'm right at 5'11", 32" inseam, and about 192lbs. After the long rides I think my throttle hand is the most noticable bother, it gets pretty buzzy. I think a lighter throttle return spring and a bar end weight on that side would help tremendously.

Just picked up a 750k3 that has vintage Tommaselli clip ons that are looooooow with no rear sets. I'm about 6' and the setup seems to be comfortable.

I know this is a super old topic, but I thought I'd throw my .02 in.

I have a 71 CB750 with clubman bars and stock foot pegs. I'm also about 6'1" and I consider it very comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of being super upright or super leaned over. For me it's a great balance of comfort while still feeling like I'm in control. In fact, I don't think I'd like rear sets as they'd point my knee down more and give me more of that laying on my stomach feel... which I'm sure is fine if you're racing or Batman or something, but I like the position I'm in very much.

I've noticed a bit of difference in clubman bars though, so it may not hold for all manufacturers and sizes.
