17 or 18" rear wheel?
« on: January 18, 2011, 05:42:44 PM »
I have a 750K8 that I'm cafeing.Do most cafes have a 18r and a 19f? Did my bike come with a 17 or 18" wheel? I have custom mags that the previous owner put on. I would like to put the widest tire possible on the rear. Would it be better to go with a 17"? What's the difference in handling. I will never race it(I'm married with kids). Just want it to handle well enough for daily riding. My front wheel is 19" of course.

Your bike had a 17 originally, what style mags  are on it now?  Post a pic?  Too wide of a tire can really throw off the steering geometry, a lot of people put wide tires on their 750 back in the early 70's and the bikes I test rode after installation were not all that fun to ride...Larry

As long as you set up the bike with matching rims in modern sizes and know a bit about setting a bike up properly, you can fit bigger tyres and still have a great handling bike, Look at Terry's "goldie" FZR forks 18 inch wider rims front and back and good shocks, out of all the Honda's he's had {and thats quite a few} it is the best handling 750/4 he has ever ridden....

Scroll down to near the bottom for a look at his bike....Mine has a 4.5x17 rear and a 3.5x 17 front, its not on the road yet but it will handle well when finished....

If you have a wide enough 18" rear rim I  have a tire you might just want.
