what can i say? a 42hp 550 is just a good sounding, light hoped up street motor, nothing else.

these bikes were 36-38 stock, so i guess that a good fresh motor with open pipes and filters should yield something like that.

save the term "sick" for for something that really deserves it :),

like a 70hp 500....;)

sohc members like howell are up to 65hp, iomtt 63hp, me 61hp, from 500 c.c., not 550 which is 10% more displacement.....

the bike wears a number plate so this dutch guy seems to race or parade it, maybe Howell knows him. Ruud Fredriks is jsut the motorcycle shop with the dyno in Goes, Holland

42 at rearwheel. That's two more than I had measured and my 500 is standard... Long time ago Ruud himself used to race a 500 Four.

that was a wishful thinking.....dont know about any current 70 hp CB500 but I do know that Davies Motorsports are aiming for it in their build. If they'll achieve it or not is another story. But the 65hp that Howell got is not too bad either  ::), look for his racer build thread, the dyno chart is in there. With re-angled 29mm intakes I'd say that 70hp is achievable, you need only a few thousand euros/dollars to secure a well equipped workshop for a month, that's all  :D

and yes, all numbers i quoted are rearwheel hp

For those who are interested in a dyno of a standard* 500, here's mine.
Mine is a '76 500K2 [ED] with #78 main jets and snorkle over the airfiltercase. Actually we missed 1-11/2 HP. Mechanic blamed the worn and stiff drve-chain at the time.

* Standard: Keihin carbs (649A) and 4 original exhausts

No idea. The mechanic was 'riding'. I was at the back of the bike, trying to get the A/F sniffer in one of the exhausts (which was not much of a succes).
