350F tank on a 750K8. Pics
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:21:50 AM »
Not especially weird, but it begs the question: "How?"  I mean the 350 tank is built to accomodate the 350's narrow spine, while the 750 duplex chassis has all kinds of bracing on top of the frame.

Can't tell you "how". But, I love the look of the 350 tank, and when I look at my 350 tank next to my 550f tank, I wish they would have kept that style on more bikes before going so curvy with them...

It's a little short, but looks pretty good. I've always liked the shape of the 350f tank, just looks kind of english/cafe racery to me.

I like the looks myself, but seems odd some of the "bad" things he listed would seem so easy to fix and avoid having to list them at all, plus his rating isn't all that great in my book.

I like the 350F tank also but, don't have clue how it was fitted to that 750. If the under side
was reshaped to fit, I wonder how much gas it holds now?  Later on, Bill :) ;)

I would say a generous application of the old lateral impact device would gain the clearance necessary.

I've always wanted to try to fit the CB500T tank to my CB550F.  Similar to the 350 tank with the indents for the knees.  Haven't found one to play with however.

Without looking at the undersides of each tank side-by-side, I am unsure of exactly what is needed to
be done to make a 350 tank fit a 750 frame. As with anything else, ANYTHING can be made to fit
ANYTHING, it just sometimes takes alittle thought, a weld here or there, etc...

The tank on the bike in my Avitar will be the next one for my scoot...

You're right, you sure don't see those 500T gas tanks very often on ebay or anywhere else.
When you do see 1 on ebay, someone will bid you out of it. Good luck on your search though.

I bought a 500T tank to put on my 350F. The 350F underside is much wider than the 500T, to accommodate the duel coils. Its too much trouble for me to make it fit. I don't know how wide the 750 tank underside is but since they use the same coils, the width may be OK. I'll measure mine if anyone need the info.

   keiths,
I'm sure if you would measure it and post the measurements, it would be appreciated.

I have a 350F tank myself that I'm thinking of trying on 1 of my projects because it does have
a nice shape and I know it's a little short. I'll just have to be more creative with tank positioning and
seat design. So anyway, Later on.  Bill

tintin, I thought I was losing it. I could not remember where I had seen the
CB500T or who owned it. Anyway, you said you were looking for a CB500T gas tank? Well,I
found one on ebay, if you want to try for it.

It's in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Just thought I'd pass this on to you. Hope this helps. Later on, Bill

Here are the two tanks side by side. The 500T is on the left. Its narrowest point is near the center at about 3.5 inches. The 350F has its narrowest point near the front. It widens to about 7.5 inches to clear the coils and carbs.

the 350f tank on my '74 is plenty wide enough underneath to sit on my '78 750k frame. when i saw your post i went out to the garage and tried it. :D it appears you would just have to weld a new bracket on the frame to hold the tail end down, and modify the seat pan to mate it up with the shorter tank. the 350f is a great looking tank, it's just a little too short fot the 750 in my humble opinion.
