Wiring harness
« on: January 22, 2011, 09:01:23 PM »
I know there are tons of threads on this, and I have read a lot of them for several hours. I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for, and don't really even know how to ask the question.... ::) lol

One I have right now is, How does the harness have power or (current) when the solenoid is to the battery, and it doesn't allow power (current) to the other side until current is sent through the YELLOW/RED wire to close the contact in the solenoid.
Shouldn't the harness have power so when you turn the key on your lights will come on?

I don't have the harness on the bike yet, I'm going through all of it on the bench testing connections and all.
I removed the clutch switch, and the diode for the SMSU, never had the actual SMSU, and also wired a DOHC reg/rec into it with diagrams I found on the forum.

I have a battery hooked up, and I get nothing unless I jump the YELLOW/RED wire to the positive of the battery or the terminal on the solenoid that is to the battery.

I feel like a retard... ::) :-[...... :D

I think I have the cable on the solenoid backwards, both the battery cable, and the battery cable that feed the harness go on the same pole?
Then the starter cable goes on the other pole of the solenoid....
This way the harness has power, sent to the ignition, battery wire, and when switched on it feeds through the black wire, hit the start button and it feeds back through the yellow/red closing the contact in the solenoid, and powering the other pole to the starter..

I don't know why or what I was thinking putting them on separate poles, this is embarrassing :-[...lol

You should have a red wire that connects directly to the battery terminal and to the ignition switch via a fuse.  This is the source wire for all of the switch's functions, including providing the low amp power to the solenoid to fire it.

Well you were right about not knowing how to ask. I'm not sure what you are saying about the about the start sol ???. But here goes. Don't you need to hook up the green grd. to the neg side of batt. Also activate the neutral sw. or the clutch sw. and have key sw. to start or run with kill sw. in proper position. that's where I would start hope someone like TT or HondaMan sees this would like to hear what they think Bump.

Also do you have the print from the Honda manual follow it. If you don't know how to read it then re-post and we will help :D

Right, I had this wire on the wrong side of the solenoid, if you move it to the battery side, then you have power, as you say.

lol.... yea I'm not good at wording my questions.

I do have the main green harness grounded to the neg of the battery.
Yes I have the Honda manual diagram but it's in b&w have a Clymer that I had blown up to a 11x17 but it sucks, the colors are wrong on some stuff and there are some wires missing in the diagram ;D
It shows the high beam as black, when its really blue, and for some reason the headlight in the clymer diagram, doesnt have power.....

Brian, your harness is not going to work as intended while off your bike. Remember that the battery (-) negative connects directly to the frame and the frame conducts the neg. side of the battery to everything that lights-up or makes sparks..... that big green wire connects to the frame at the coil mounts, doesn't go to the battery. Best would be to go ahead and mount the harness to the frame, install the + and - connections to a battery and check-out the loom that way.........  :)
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,
