and it has a new battery!!!!! WOO HOOO!!!!  but it's no longer rear.....just plain ol' rare

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/mcy/2175786105.html

1972 Honda CB 500 F-our VERY RARE and fast!! REDUCED TO $1,050 - $1050 (Graham

Extremely rare!! and very fast!! (for a early 70's bike) Need it gone!! First person with 1,050 takes it!! Only made by Honda for 2 years, thin they went to the 550-F size ...... Disc break front end. Sat (garaged) since late 70's got it running, went through carbs, timed, comp tested all 4 around 125psi cold. flushed gas tank, and both break systems, carbs seem to be out of sink a bit so won't stay idling for more than 2 minnits or so, but starts rite back up.

It's all there, just missing one side cover, chrome is near perfect, tank is straight, but needs paint. stitching on seat is delaminating, but not to bad. Got it running like a champ. Also includes the org. 1972 Wa. license plate. Running starting stopping and all lights and starter work. JUST BOUGHT A BRAND NEW BATTERY FOR IT TODAY $50+ bucks more into it 8/14/10 With a years worentee on it. If you wont a good running project, that will be worth 5000 or more wen your done..... than here you go......With some paint one r/s side cover, and a bit of elbow grease it could like this

It's worrenteed.

Damn. Considering I wouldn't personally pay more than 600 bucks for a well running, decent condfition 550 (winter.. in summer I'd pay 700...), this little fella is worth more than maybe 450 to me.

I'm glad he flushed both break (brake) systems, but I'm a little concerned about what he used to flush the rear drum!

Now, fellas, it may not be his fault. Likely, some Know-it-all neighbor who never rode a motorcycle in his life, informed him he had a rare, vintage, collector's bike that was worth a LOT of money. Naturally, he wanted to believe it and there he goes! Just be glad he wasn't told it was worth $10,000.

I ran into this sooo many times, over the years, fooling with antique cars. And, if you attempt to tell him the truth, he thinks you're trying to steal it. It screws up the seller's mind forever!

No you don't.  That's the most expensive piece of the bike.  KBB trade-in on that license plate is $850.
