cb750k4 Tank Lining
« on: January 24, 2011, 09:46:54 AM »
Afternoon all,

gonna line my tank pretty soon,  there's a fair amount of rust in the seems at the bottom of the tank, but it looks pretty good every where else.  I am looking at the KBS kit to do this, just wanted to see if others out there had good results with it.  Also, is there any issue with the liner sealing the hole for the petcock (I am assuming you need to remove the b4 lining)

Thanx

You'll want to clean that rust out of the tank before sealing it. I've never used KBS but have used Caswell's epoxy tank sealant and have had good results with that product. And yes you'll want to remove the petcock before sealing the tank.

If you haven't already, get one of those inspection mirrors and a flashlight and look around good to make sure you got all the rust out.  They will rust perty good up top.

You can use the same procedure later to make sure your tank is dry before you apply the liner.  And then again to make sure it all looks good during the next four days of drying.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

OK,

I cleaned alot of the rust out a few weeks back with a brush and some acetone.  The kit I am looking at comes with a light acid that is supposed to get the rest.

thanks for the addvice

Def make sure the petcock is out before you do the acid part also.Products like the Works and others will eat your aluminum for lunch and you will be shopping for a new petcock  ;)
