Wiring diagram specifically for the 750 K3-K5?
« on: January 24, 2011, 04:20:06 PM »
My 750 (K5)has had a dimmer than normal headlight for a while now.
And at times, it will go completely out when switching to hi beam.
Yes, I have replaced the bulb :). I suspect the hi/lo switch is giving
up, but would like to do a voltage drop test of the entire head/tail lite circuit to be thorough. I can't find a good wiring diagram for a
k5 anywhere. Clymer is all I can find and they suck. I'm thinking the K3-K5 U.S. models were the same, and did NOT have the headlight kill during start feature like the K6-up models. Is this true, and does anyone have or know of a place where I could get a diagram? Thanks in advance...

I would make sure that the ground wire is not loose or corroded (in the headlight shell).  When cars have dim lights a poor ground is a likely probelm.  Would not hurt to check all connections for corrosion.

Agreed sir. Basics are always a good idea. I found a diagram in the 750 service manual supplement for the k1-8 models. There is a link for it in the cb750 section of the home page under "books and manuals"

For excellent wiring diagrams for many models, check out OldManHonda.com. He's color coded them (as they are on your bike) and some have various circuits set up to "hide" so you can just isolate one circuit at a time. Very cool.

I had a similar issue with my 550 and, to a degree, my 750. I followed some advice on the forum here that was easy and really did the trick. Add a new, fresh ground wire. Use the front mount for the coils as a new frame ground. Connect a new wire there and run it with your existing harness that goes right to the headlight bucket. You will likely find an available ground connection in the bucket that serves lights, turn signals, etc.
