Which carb kit ?
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:39:40 PM »
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and have a carb question.       I recently bought a '76 CB750 and looking at carb rebuild kits but just not sure which kit to get.
Also think carbs came off newer cb750.
Serial no on carbs is PD41BA
Can anybody tell me what is the difference between keyster carb kits KH-0983N and KH-0982N? And which one will fit my carbs?

Thanks for any help.
Michael

My 2cents...   You probably only need gaskets.   The jets and needles are brass and unless someone has buggered them up with drill bits etc they don't really wear out.
Just clean the crap out of them.   I've always heard that the Honda gaskets, jets and needles are of a better quality.

I have tried both.  The gaskets that came with the Keyster kit started leaking less than a year after purchase.  Now, I will say that I had the bowls off a few times
to get the needle position correct - not sure if that contributed to their early demise.  I have Honda gaskets on there now.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

..and the little o-rings if ya got press-in jets.

(the word is keyster jet ID and needle tapers are slightly different than OEM HONDA)

That's what I found. A member here tipped me off to a trick (kghost?). I used a drill bit gauge and found the holes into which the needles would fit, but not fall through and checked how far down the needles went before binding on the gauge hole. Big difference. As I recall, the Keyster needles were much more slender and slipped further down. Can't address the jet ID issue though.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

These are not the kits for the PD carbs!  You will need the kits for the 77-78 CB750's!  The best place right now (until parts-n-more get back up) is www.vintagecb750.com and I would strongly recommend getting the four rebuild kits AND the accelerator pump.

I have used Keyster and K&L kits and bpth have worked fine on my bikes.
I didn't use the Keyster needles on my K3 carbs though, I had problems trying to get the needles off and left them on.

Needles pretty much never wear out unless you bend or break them anyway.
