Where are you guys putting your inspection sticker? I need to get mine done and didn't know where I should put it.

I wish we had the small ones that fit in the license place squares on the corners...

Was wondering the same thing, I know alot of people just have the license plate brackets that have the tounge that sticks down enough for the sticker ot if your lucky with the cops just stick it on the back of the plate or anywhere...any time ive been stopped they ahve never asked for my inspection and if they did I have the sticker to prove it...just not in an obvious spot.

You need to get a metal plate that bolts to the license plate holder under the plate.



I got one at the local Honda dealer.

I supposed there are different designs, I'm not sure if Texas requires the sticker in that location but it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

Hey guys, on the subject, are there any major things I need to know for Texas Motorcycle inspection?  I'm moving to Austin in 2 weeks and just curious if I have to do anything to get my bike through inspection.  It is currently not inspected in PA and I just go with that, but I'd rather be a bit more legal in Texas.

All the lights need to work and they can fail it if there is a crack in the lens.  You have to be able to stop from like 20 in a marked length.  Horn has to work even though we know they are useless.  Not sure about mirrors but you will personally want at least one.  Prolly no smoke flowing out of the exhaust.  It is not too bad when the vehicles are older.

It may be a pain but it is nice when you can see someones brake light working.

If you have turn signals, they have to work, If they don't work, take them off and you will still pass. The hi/lo beams, tail light, horn and brakes lights have to work. I have NEVER had an inspector check or care about my MC brakes. My last inspection I hit the horn and flashed the brights as I pulled into the stall, the inspector checked the tail light and signals and I was done. Took 10 seconds for the inspection and two minutes for the paperwork.

Nothing in Texas law mandates where the inspection sticker must go. I have put them all over - plates, fender, frame, under the seat. I have never had a cop ask to see it. I think it only matters if you piss the cop off and he's trying to nail you.

haha.  Alright thanks guys.  I have all of the above covered except a horn.  I can hook it up just don't have one cause it is simply hideous(and yes useless).  Have mirrors and working turn signals, as well as a hi/lo, so all good. 

You mirrored what I was told by others.  My first project when I move to Austin is a Triumph Bobber, and I don't plan on putting on turn signals or much of anything else.

I've got mine on one of the license plate deals, but my buddy (Harley guy) has a little metal flag that you can bolt to your passenger pegs. Pretty neat little dude, keeps your baby lookin slick.

I am a certified tx state inspector and you have to have the sticker on the back of the bike near the license plate. It has to be rear facing. If you dont have one of the plates like CycleRanger recommended they will try to put the sticker on the rear fender. As far as the inspection criteria... Current insurance, High/Low HL, turnsignals(if there), Tail/Brake, Tire tread, Brakes pad thickness/function/no leaks, Horn(for function,mounting,wiring), a baffled exhaust, and it must stop within 30ft @ 20mph. I think thats it... Might be missing one or two things.  The plate is like $5, the little chrome doodad's the HD shop sells will run you $20!

Baffled exhaust my butt. There wouldn't be a Harley left on the road. And I would like to know how they check my braskes, when I have never moved my bike during an inspection. This is a couple of different places over the years...

haha it all depends on where you go, I am a state inspector as well and those are the legal requirements and what everyone is supposed to check for but if you take it to a non-motorcycle shop inspection station you will more than likely find someone who has rarely or never done one and doesn't really care as long as you pay, and it rides in and rides out without smoking them out or deafining them.

Looks like you were assuming that the inspectors don't know their #$%* either...... If its anything like here it depends on who you go to, where you go to and if they had sex the night before....been to a few that hadn't....you can tell....

Wow.  +1 for North Carolina and the ease of owning such an old bike.  I was told that with a motorcycle this old, that no state inspection is required anymore.  You supposedly only have to pay your $$ and get a new sticker for the tag every year, which kind of seems bass-ackwards to me... with a bike this old, it seems like the state might want to give it a somewhat more thorough inspection just to make sure it won't fall apart while going down the road.

You can register your bike as vintage, then an inspection is not required.
