Regarding the claimed low self-discharge rate for Lifepo4 batteries, I checked my X-cell, which has been sitting for just over a month after the last discharge/charge test cycle, and it is 14.11V.
I have a fair amount of experience with batteries, from industrial sized units in the thousands of amp hour range, used as backup and maintained at float voltages, to smaller banks, used in solar applications, where deep discharging can occur frequently.
While this new technology would be too expensive for those applications, it is applicable to our bikes, where space and weight are a premium. Perhaps this is why current hybrid vehicles are using similar battery chemistry's.

Stu,
How many batteries are you testing? Are you trying out any of the 4 cell battery (Not sure if Shorai even offers them)? Funny that you posted here also as I have been keeping track of your thread on the Aprilia forum.
Small world, eh? I have no idea how many cells are inside the case or whether they're A123, and I don't really care as long as the batteries perform as claimed. I have four batteries under test. The Caponord has the 14 Ah equivalent installed, and I'll try an 18 Ah equivalent to see if there's any real benefit to using the "duration" option for another $50. I stuck an 18 in a Gold Wing, and you see in the pic above the smaller case w/14 Ah equivalent performance in the CB500. I'll also try it in my CL350, though if it's good to go in the 500, I don't think the 350 will tax it any more. One nice thing for sure, my garage floor isn't littered with battery maintainers anymore. Tired of tripping over them.

What gauge wire?
Is the circuit fused?
What current capacity?
