Welcome!  Pic of your bike?

See below.  It's waiting for Reagan at Ace Motorworks to get the fuel tank cleaned and sealed.  I should get it back this week and hope to fire it up next weekend.

Nope, I've owned it since it was new.  I bought it at Jim Hall Honda in Houston in the spring of 1971.  It sorta got shoved to the rear in 1985 when the front brake system gave out.  I had other bikes to ride (my wife's CB500 Four and my FT500 Ascot street thumper), so the 750 found itself in a dirt floor unheated shed behind our home in Ohio from 1985 to 1997 when we were transferred back to Texas.

My other bike right now is a 2007 BMW K1200GT, but I finally got motivated to get the 750 back on the street and have been working on it the last couple of months.  It has a total of 9811 miles showing on the odometer as it sits in the garage today.

I'm not far from Cypress, I live in Tomball.

I keep meaning to get over to Ace Motorworks but other projects keep getting in the way.

We're probably not that far apart, then.  We live just north of Louetta, between Eldridge and Grant.

So, how many SOHC owners are in the Houston area?  Do they ever get together, even as part of a larger vintage bike club or other gathering?

We need to get the DFW members together sometime.

I was in San Antonio, all over the hill country and Austin last week and did not see one SOHC4..... So Sad!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

We do not get together and have meetings or any of that fuzzyfeel good stuff...
we probaly should but the reality is theres alot of people and its hard for everyone to be running and free for meet ups
when we did get a few of us in one spot it was a Reagans shop Ace Motorworks. But that was like maybe 50% of the people.
I heard sometimes they have a group of bikes meet for beer at the Darkhorse Saloon but Ive never made it down.

I normally ride the Beemer over a long weekend in the Hill Country in late October or early November.  Maybe I'll be able to take the 750 this year!

IT'S ALIVE!!!

I got it back together and lit it off at 8:50 this morning with only 2 minor problems:

1. Initially, I wasn't getting fuel flow through the petcock.  Took care of that.

2. One carb had a stuck needle/float and dribbled fuel out the air cleaner.  Got that freed up.

With that done, the engine lit right off.  It took less than a minute for the untouched original carbs to clean up and start hitting on all 4 cylinders, but it's now idling at 1000 RPM (remember - it has the Yoshi cam) and sounding great.  70 PSIG oil pressure @ 2000 RPM (10W-40 Castrol) and no funny noises.  Next step was to unstick the clutch plates - bike on centerstand, 1st gear, clutch in and GENTLE rear brake application - with 2 or 3 stops, the clutch broke loose.

Next step is to take it around the block - with no baffle in the header, 1985 Ohio plates and no inspection sticker.  I hope the local LEOs understand.....

Gotta get the tires & tubes swapped out, add it to the insurance policy, then get an inspection sticker, the title transferred and a license plate this week.  Maybe by next weekend it can legally be back on the road.

Did breakfast with Jeff (Sohc4Lat). Met up at Maxim Honda for their breakfast run and then broke off from the herd. First time to ride with an SOHC on a SOHC.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Yea, enjoyed that!  Now the wife wants to go there, NOW. Lol

Hopefully we can get Gordon, fastbroshi, CBGhia and Greenjeans out for a breakfast run. Maybe some of the local lurkers too.

I don't know? Probably takes a bunch of the mystery out of meeting you for everyone - knowing what you actually look like, Rick!

Let's do the Fuzzy's in McKinney next time. I look forward to meeting the "real 750 rider" in your fam! ~Jeff

Not at all, Kyle! Heck, you started this whole thread!!! Didn't you get a pm from me wanting your contact info? I thought I had a phone number for you, but can not find it on my phone. We are most interested in getting your e-mail address to add you and anyone else that would like to be included to the list for occasional get togethers. I'm less than a fan of PMs. Jeff(takethisout)Latimer@mac.com
