Can a clutch cable stretch out over time?
« on: March 31, 2006, 07:14:26 AM »
No matter how I adjust it - either at the handle or at the engine - I just can't seem to lose the slack in the clutch handle. There's way too much wiggle room. Could I remedy this just by replacing the cable with a new one? It seems like that would tighten things up...

Cables do stretch but I am not sure if it could that far. Maybe reroute a bit might help but I think you either have an adjustment off somewhere or you need a new cable.

Yes, they can stretch. Then they snap at the most inconvenient time and place.

I'm taking the day off today, so maybe I'll play with the adjustment more. If that doesn't work it can't hurt to buy a new one. They're under $20.
