CB650 Frame info needed
« on: March 27, 2006, 08:59:56 PM »
Hey you SOHC/4 gurus!  I am considering building a bike based on a CB650.  Does anyone know if the differences between the standard and custom 650 models were all cosmetic/bolt-on, or if there were any actual frame/swingarm dimensional differences between the two?  Were the 1979-1981 frames all the same?  Thanks for any help.  Jim.

Yup.
There are some differences between the 1979 - ... and the 80/81 custom models as well. I remember especially the swingarm and it's bushings etc. beeing different (size) as well as the fork diameters, frame geometry caster angle etc.

The rake was diff for the nitehawk.  The 79 still had a flip up seat rest bolted on. 79 battery slid in from the side rest dropped in from under seat so the air box/filter was diff.  Forks where same except for the 81 CUSTOM & 82 NITEHAWK as they went to trailing axles with air assist.

I'm curios if the 81/82 standards had these also. Dont think they did.  I know they stayed with the single disk. Dad had a 82 standard but sold it and got a magna before this obsession started.
