Sorry to capitalize and all but I am up a creek without a paddle right now. I am moving to Texas next Monday and my bike is in a hundred pieces, now I find I have the wrong piston rings and cannot put it back together!
My bike is a 77 CB750F. I got the part number for Total Seal rings from this post:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=36531.0 Got a set and just spent a couple hours file fitting them(took way longer than it should have). Well I should have checked piston fit first. They DON'T!
My piston ring lands measure 1.2mm. According to the above post and everything I can find for the 77F they should be 1.5mm. The rings that Total Seal sent me are 1.5/1.5/2.8 as listed in that post. However my rings are 1.2/1.2/2.8.
Do I have oddball pistons? They are marked with "Honda" cast into them.
I cannot afford any delays and this is a huge one. I should have had this engine back together last week but due to bad weather UPS didn't deliver some parts until today. Kind of freaking out about this now. Of course on disassembly one of the 2nd groove rings broke, so I cannot reuse the old rings.
All my measurements were taken with a cheapy set of digital calipers but the rings CLEARLY don't fit into the piston lands and there is no grime built up in them.
