where tapet adjuster nuts hide
« on: February 02, 2011, 05:49:46 PM »
Hey all,
Three of my eight tapet adjuster nuts are missing!! I found one of the nuts in the oil pan and that's what alerted me to the problem. I took the tapet covers off and realized that I'm actually missing three. I need to find the other two. I took a magnet on the end of a flexible rod and went fishing but it's pretty tight under there. Really couldn't get the magnet in very far. I'm trying to avoid taking the engine out. Anybody have experience with this situation? I understand that these nuts have been known to do this so if anybody know where they like to end up, please clue me in.

Thanks,
Greg

I would spend my time up top as opposed to the sump. Depends how close the lost ones are to the cam chain passage. If the lost ones are on the ends I would spend my time with the magnet up top. Might help to find someone that has one of the small cameras that have small tubes to look in walls. I have one and it works great. Never used it on an engine but I bet it would work. Good Luck, Dan

Hey Dan,
That's a good idea but also might be a bit tricky to get such camera. I've needed something like that before, maybe I should ebay it.

oh man...  I had one pop off when I was adjusting them once.  I'll second the note about looking in the valve cover more and less looking on the bottom end.
