CB750K1 Tank Badge ID - pics
« on: January 21, 2011, 01:22:37 PM »
My K1 tins are in for candy gold paint. The OEM badges that were on the tank as noted in the pics have chrome around the HONDA letters. The new set came and are gold around the letters. In fact, all the OEM K1 badges on eBay are gold. The build date on the bike is 9/70. Which is correct for this bike and what year would the gold ones be for? The OEM part number is the same in my book. You can really see it good in the last pic. They are identical except for the chrome vs the gold. Click the pic to enlarge...

I noticed that difference as well, the last set of 750 K1 tank badges I ordered from Honda was mis-matched. One came in gold and the other one in chrome. I could have sworn they were supposed to be chrome, then I checked the OEM part numbers against my USA, European and Japanese parts books and they all use the same number. Looks like Honda kept the same part number, but changed the finish from chrome to gold now.

If you want correct for the bike, its going to be the HONDA with the chrome around the lettering.  The early bikes had chrome around the lettering so if you want it as close to factory as you can, look for chrome ones.

Still looking for some badges?  These appear to be the correct chrome badges.  Not in the best of condition though.

Thanks for the post. I think the only way I could do better than what I already have is to find NOS. Mine are pretty good, just some dings in the chrome around the letters. I was thinking maybe some light emry on that area would smooth it out.

Hi Johnie, my K1 is one month 'newer' than yours, built 10/70 but has black letters on the tank badges which I'm sure are original to the bike ( K0 ??)..... the edges are chrome, tho'.............
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Thanks for the reply spanner. Here is the info that Hondaman sent me and I quote from him. "There were 2 K1 Honda tank trims: the ones from the 'old factory' were white center letters on all-black background. The 'new factory' version had chrome around the outer edges, with black on the raised faces where they held the white paint in the letters, looking like black-outlined white letters. It added a tad of 'sparkle' to the showroom bikes, so said the Honda sales rep of the day."
